Forums - Website Topics - VGChartZ not reliable or dependable

I have a problem with refer data form this site,  i've ever refer jrpg sale number such as TLR, LO and TOV but my friend doesn't belive me because i've refer data form VG.  I wonder this site not reliable or dependable? and where are this site get data from? my freind show this link and some quote to me.

It did not sell 500K units or anywhere near it. I still don't understand where you're getting 500K.

To the best of my knowledge, the 300K figure quoted by IR included European orders from Nintendo who published the title on our behalf in that territory. Nor did it do the volume it did do at anywhere near frontline pricing (in the US anyway).

And what you think was a cheap game to make, wasn't. Great games almost never are.

Lastly, Okami Wii is not on track to outsell the PS2 version. The worldwide Okami Wii number might get to the US Okami PS2 number at some point though. Seriously guys, just stop trying to use VGchartz or whatever you read on Neogaf to be armchair analysts. You're working with incorrect information and a fraction of the facts.

Let me break this down for you.

Our software sales data isnt anywhere near what we want it to be but our hardware is pretty much spot on with every professional service in existence at the moment averaging within 5% of professionally released data.

We will not release who our retail sources are for confidentiality reasons.

What I can tell you is our data is based off of retail figures, shipment numbers, and our sources.

Software, even for professional trackers like the NPD Group, can get difficult to track due to the fact that games dont stop selling till their production ends making so that at least a few copies of a game can be sold at retailers (not from used bins).

If your friend, or anyone else for that matter, has any general questions about this site feel free to have him contact me at mschnackenberg@vgchartz.com

You think VGChartz knows better numbers for Okami than Christian Svensson?

I think Sven talks out his ass. I remember when this first came up, and a lot of what he was claiming didn't make sense. He probably could know the numbers better, but that doesn't mean he actually looked them up. In fact, it was discovered that he was counter claiming his own companies numbers. When someone claimed a capcom game sold well, he turned around and did the same thing, but the numbers were from Capcom Japan

Just remember, VGChartz is the best weekly source for WW numbers, but it does have it's problems. As SSJ said, hardware is better than software. The more popular games tend to get tracked better than the very small games. Just take the software number with a grain of salt, and remember this is all statistics anyways. Also, VGChartz has been improving the numbers over time, and is trying to get much more accurate.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit

I don't exactly trust VGChartz numbers to be exact, but at least they should give a very good direction. Especially less popular games are probably a bit inaccurate.

Do you really care what he believes?

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD
