Forums - Nintendo - What Is Your Favorite 3D Mario? (EXCLUDING Galaxy & Odyssey)

My favorite 3D Mario (excluding Galaxy/Odyssey) is…

Super Mario 64 15 65.22%

Super Mario Sunshine 2 8.70%

Super Mario 3D Land 0 0%

Super Mario 3D World 6 26.09%

Total:23

For me? It’s very close between 64 and Sunshine. Whereas IMO the latter has more refined level design and movement, I would still give it to 64 simply for how (i) short-and-simple it is to pick up and do a full 100% play-through, and for how (ii) innovative it was for its time.

What about you?

Odyssey is my favourite, but out of these I have to go for 64. Though sunshine gets more hate than it deserves.

Mario 64. It's the only 3D Mario that feels like the NES/SNES games to me. Like I'm actually in the original Mushroom Kingdom, only in the third dimension.

They are all great, but Ill go with Mario 64.

Have you played 3D Land or World? Because 3D Land especially is a lot closer to the original Super Mario Bros games imo.

besides Galaxy and Odyssey.... it would probably be Mario 64 then (nostalgia is one hellva drug), Land > World > Sunshine.
I actually prefer Land to World.

I've played whichever one is on the Wii-U. I thought the multiplayer aspect was fun, and it certainly felt fresh, but I didn't get classic Mario vibes from it. Felt more like a spin-off to me.

3D World is my favorite, followed by 64 and Galaxy vying for second place.

Since Odyssey and the Galaxies are off limits, then Super Mario 64. The game is a product of its time with its lackluster camera and technical limitations but it truly is a testament to how fun Nintendo can make a game when you take into consideration said limitations.

I remember when I got 3D All Stars, I began with Mario 64, which I hadn't played in a long time, and actually played the game to completion in one sitting; all 120 stars, and I had a blast doing it. The character control is still impressive the way you can just run, dive attack, then jump up and continue with momentum seamlessly... it's just fun, and all with no water squirting, spin attacks or hat throws. And the game still has probably the best hub world of any of these types of collect-a-thons. Then, I tried playing Sunshine again... sat through the embarrassingly bad intro/courtroom scene, played for about 5 minutes and said, Nope! On to Galaxy.

I also very much enjoyed 3D Land and World, particularly the latter, which I hold in very high regards as well.

Sunshine. It's hard and has the best camera. 3D World is better than Galaxy. Odyssey is meh.
