Forums - Nintendo - When do you think the last official Switch 1 release will happen? (And why?)

When do you predict the last official software release for Switch 1 will be, and what's your reasoning?

For some historical context, the last 3DS game released in 2023, 12 years after the system's release, the last Wii game released in 2020, over 13.5 years after the console's launch, and the PS4 and XBO are still getting minor software this year, over 12 years post-launch.

If we are talking about from Nintendo? Maybe 2030, Nintendo makes many games that do not require a lot of power to do. Games like 51 world wide classics that Nintendo puts out can be made for both NS1/NS2 and dont even need physical releases later on. If it's 3rd party games then I expect 10+ years from now we will still see indy games being releasees on the store front that are NS1/NS2 compatible.

Nah, third parties too, as those tend to stick around far longer.

Indies or small third-party titles will still be releasing into the 2030s, likely around the time Switch 2's successor launches.
I'll say 2032. Switch is going to possibly surpass Atari 2600 which had its final North American official releases in 1991 and Acid Drop in PAL Regions in 1992.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

Since we're even seeing indie developers no longer release Xbox One and PS4 games 5-6 years after the PS5 and Xbox Series released I'll say 2031. Indie games on Switch usually sell better than the other platforms, so if they kept doing Xbox One and PS4 5-6 years after their successors are out I think the same will happen with Switch.

2030 or so. Indie will support it a while longer. We got the last 3DS game not long ago and Wii got the last official game in 2020 or so. Nintendo will probably only support Switch with online maintenance past 2026 themselves.

If I’m not mistaken, GBA recently got a Shantae game… so can’t say I know the answer to this one.

Doubt it. Similar to the Retrobit repros  or new SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive games like ZPF. It's not official. Nintendo isn't making GBA carts anymore to sell to developers. LRG been selling a lot of those in recent years. SNES/Genesis. Game Boy and 3D0.

Thanks; I looked it up and it seems the last official GBA title was Samurai Deeper Kyo in 2008, so 7 years after the system released.

To add a few more, the last official DS game was Big Hero Six in 2014, just a month short of the system's 10's birthday, and the last Wii U game was a pair of Silver Falls games, releasing early in the console's 11th year.
