Forums - Gaming - Good games in 2025 that flew under the radar

Tagged games:

While the likes of Clair Obscur, Donkey Kong Bananza, Silksong, and the like get a ton of attention, a lot of smaller profile titles can be overlooked amidst the myriad of games that release in a year these days.

What are some games from last year that you feel didn't get the recognition they deserved and were overlooked?

Easily Story of Seasons Grand Bazaar. The game released on Switch 1, 2 and PC (I bought on PC), and is my personal goty from 2025.

Metal Eden. It's a great Sci Fi Doom-Ish FPS. Short but fast paced. It's loads of fun.

Lunar HD Collection. Suikoden HD collection. Some fantastic classic RPGs that hold up but I just never saw anyone mention them. Look at eBay prices for the originals. It's a fantastic deal to get them in a collection like that.

Raidou. Like anything not named Persona in the SMT series. Everything else gets overlooked. TBH I like Persona a lot but it's not even the best SMT series has to offer. Not saying Raidou is the peak of the series but it is fantastic. It's a ARPG spinoff. You do some detective work and like any RPG go through dungeons. The story is interesting. The setting of 1920s Japan is cool. The revamped gameplay is really good.

Daemon X Machina Titanic Scion. First game is a Mech mission base game that is more or less Arcade Armored Core. This game is more action game Xenoblade X 2.  Still can custom your exo suit but not a mech anymore. Mechs are just a temp battle power up.  Has a really fun open world.  The world is fun to explore and getting more weapons and armor to customize with. A lot of fun boss fights.  I feel anyone who liked Xenoblade X should give this a try.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Farthest Frontier, no doubt about it. It's a great survival city-builder, akin to Banished but more refined. It doesn't try to do anything fancy, but what it does, it does really well. I'd like to mention music in particular. It's not turn-based, but it has exactly that 'one more turn' thing going on for it regardless. Personally I never got into Banished (felt too simple, too survivalistic, and it just didn't manage to hook me), but I love Farthest Frontier.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer. Started the year in early access on PC, but finally released in September and it felt like its launch was too quiet. On old racing franchise that harkens back to the 90s, but this reminds me of the Dreamcast games. So much of it feels old school but of course touched up graphics. Even characters are silhouettes lol. But it gives you everything you want in an arcadey illegal highway street racing game! Feels old yet new in the best ways. Glad to see that Genki is back on their game and the game is finally getting a console port here in early 2026.

Dispatch (though that one got some recognition)
Skin Deep
Revenge of the Savage Planet
Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon

When it comes to Steam, highest rated game of 2025 is DELTARUNE, "parallel story to UNDERTALE", from the same creator.

Sonic Crossworlds. It sold 1 million in one month and doesn't look to have enjoyed good legs this Christmas season

The Midnight Walk.

After its initial reveal Sony didn't spotlighht it in any future state of plays if I recall correctly. It's reviews were quite mid because the gameplay is ultimately a bit weak but the world, art and story was enough to make it one of the few games I completed this year. And it's legitimately scary. It should of sweeped art categories in most awards imo

Not idea on sales, but not many people talking about Absolum, despite being a great mix of Streets of Rage with Hades. Really quite stellar.
