Forums - Gaming - WSJ: video game giant EA nears roughly $50bn deal to go private

A group of investors including Silver Lake, Saudi Arabia’s PIF, and Jared Kushner’s Affinity Partners is looking to take EA private in a $50bn leveraged buyout. A deal could be concluded as early as next week.

Trump’s son-in-law and the Saudis are buying out EA, basically.

So, EA might become even worse?

As hard as that might have been to believe, yes.

EA is already garbage, I doubt this will change much in that respect.

About all that might change is left wing virtue signalling might be replaced with right wing virtue signalling.

The NFL should dump them.

I say let it happen.

It'll be a great experiment to see which populations will put pressure on those who license out their properties to them. And see what effect it will have.
Right now, the moral-censorship factions (to use a Simpsons reference, the Helen Lovejoys) seem to dominate when it comes to using that mechanism.

Couldn't have happened to a more deserving video gaming corporation.

If you're American, you can help take part in a campaign (or start one) to put pressure on them to do so.

EA and Ubisoft will go down. It's not a question of "if" but "when", considering their current management. While there is nothing EA is working on that I am excited for, I am very sorry for everyone who will eventually loose their job because of this.

Hopefully the NFL and FIFA will walk away as soon as this deal goes down. It’s more sportswashing by Prince Bonesaw and more redwashing by Kushner.

Oil is a finite resource that will run out eventually, so the Saudis want to diversify their investments as much as they can.

As for Kushner, probably looking to strengthen right-wing media reach and secure another asset for the culture war.

Only bright side is that the Saudis have at least been fairly hands-off so far in terms of not radically changing the game IP they're invested in.
