Around the Network

Smartphone = Change every 2 to 2 years

PC = Buy a new laptop every 3 to 4 years

TV = I only had two TVs I've bought with my own money, in both cases because I needed to move so it was easier to buy a new one

Tablet = Never wanted one

Car = I only had one car, and hopefully will not have another ever again

Console = I buy a new gen console every 1 to 2 years after its release

My phone I upgrade once the battery starts going. So generally every 4 or 5 years.

My PC I tend to upgrade overtime. I upgraded the CPU, MOBO, and RAM at once, followed by the GPU a year later. I've had the same monitors and keyboard for several years at this point.

I bought my car in 2014 and haven't needed to buy a new one yet. Though whenever I do I buy a new car it will be an EV (I like the look of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and it has decent range for its price).

Console I used to buy every generation, but at this point I am sticking with just PC and Nintendo. On the fence of buying a Switch 2 as there aren't enough games to justify the price yet, but also the price could go up like the Switch 1, PS5, and Xbox Series consoles have this year.

Unless it dies sooner

Smartphone = Every 7 years or so till battery drains to quickly

PC = Every 7 years or so a new laptop

TV = Have the same TV that I had for 13 years when I moved into this place

Tablet = Never wanted one

Car = One car and still running strong

Console = when they come out. But considering switching back to PC gaming since the exclusives are shrinking each generation.

Smartphone: I've had so many phones it's hard to remember, until 2016, when I bought a Samsung Galaxy J3 (for Pokemon Go).

In 2023, my dad bought an iPhone 15 and gave me his old phone, an iPhone 8. Now, I use my Galaxy J3 for security tokens (Steam, Google, etc.) and the other one for everything else.

PC: In 2016 I built a new PC using a I5 4690k, 8gb of ram ddr3 1600mhz, 480gb SSD Sata + 1TB HD and a GTX 960 4GB (my older one was a i5 3330, 8gb ddr3 1333mhz, 1TB HD and a GTX 750, I sold that pc to my brother).

In 2018 I changed the power supply, bought a 8GB GTX 1070, another 8GB of RAM, 240GB of SATA SSD for the OS and I used the old SSD to put games.

In 2023 I replaced my old i5 4690k with an i7 4770k.

In 2024 I bought a new PC from my uncle (Ryzen 7 5800x, 16GB DDR4 3600MHz RAM, RTX 3070 8GB, NVME 7GB/S 1TB SSD + 1 TB SSD SATA, and I sold my old pc to my brother...again).

In 2025 I bought more 16gb of ram.

TV: I just buy monitors, so i dont know if count.

Tablet: nah

Car: nah²

Console: I've bought almost every Sony and Nintendo consoles, but I also have an old Xbox 360, and I had an Xbox One and an Xbox One X, but I sold both.

I upgrade my hardware when it breaks, or when it no longer performs as well as I want it to.

Smartphone: I bought iphone 6 in 2019 and then it got destroyed in a collision, so I bought iphone 13 new, kept that ever since, don't know when to upgrade.

PC: In 2017 I bought this laptop, now I pretty much have to upgrade. So 8 years.

TV: I buy whenever I move house and think I will stay for a bit.

Tablet: no

Car: Bought a new used car every 3 years when I lived in America, not necessary in Japan.

Console- I try to buy Nintendo and Sony day 1 in Japan, but it is impossible to get either even year 1.

Smart phone: Got rid of it in 2009, don't want one

PC: Don't use anymore, last one the HDD died, was still running Windows NT.

Laptop: When it breaks, currently still on a 2019 Predator PH315-51
Before that I stuck to DELL laptops, had to replace those every 2 years... Next will be a Mac, either when my laptop breaks or MS makes it impossible to use it anymore. (Windows 10 support ending soon, do not want 11)

TV: When it breaks, currently Sony 65" 4K HDR HDMI 2.0, before 2006 52" Sharp Aquos 1080p.

Audio: When it breaks, currently Yamaha HDMI 1.4 amp with B&W floor speakers combined with a REL Storm III Subwoofer I bought 2nd hand in the 90s.  Actually the previous amp didn't break, just doesn't support HDMI at all, became too inconvenient. (Yamaha DSP-AX1)

Car: When it breaks, 2011 SUV still going strong. (We don't drive that much, no commute, car parked inside garage)
Before that we had a Hybrid, not enough trunk space, great trade in value though.

Console: When it comes out. PS5 Pro was my latest console buy. No interest yet in Switch 2.
Before that easier to list the ones I did not buy... (just last gen XBox pretty much, got Series X for this and previous gen)

I guess my laptop is the most important since I use it for banking/shopping/taxes etc. But it's just a device now to log in on the internet, no longer used for gaming.

Actually the most important piece of tech I use is the refrigerator! I do a 10 day grocery cycle, get provisions 3 times a month, without a fridge that would never work.

Phone: I've been taking whichever "old" phone a close friend or family member is upgrading from, and only if my current phone is reaching the end of its life. Modern phones don't excite me at all. I'll never understand the mass craze...

TV: Same as above. My current TV is a Sony 1080p from 2010~. Excellent display with decent built in speakers (But I use external speakers anyway). Not feeling the need to upgrade yet, but I will when I get a PS6 or build a new PC.

PC: Been on a GTX 1060 6GB Ryzen 3600 since 2021. Not going ot upgrade until 2030 at the earliest, unless I decide to skip the PS6.

Tablet: None.

Car: I love my 2002 Lexus IS200. Old cars are just much nicer. Though I'm not longer big on cars. May upgrade if I stop being such an introvert.

Console: PS4, GameCube, and PSP collecting dust. But I have access to a PS5 and a Switch. Might buy a PS6 at launch if I feel prices are going to play out like this terrible generation. My family/friends will probably get their own Switch 2 one day so I'm in no rush to buy my own. Sharing is caring!

I am a shocker for holding onto things long, long passed the point where I probably should have upgraded.

My current laptop I got early last year, but before that I had the same one for over a decade and by the end it was barely holding together; I finally gave in when the keyboard broke.

I have a hand-me-down smartphone that's from like 2018, with a bunch of dead pixels, and while I picked up a new TV for the gaming room when I moved in with my girlfriend in 2023, the TV at my old place is from 2015.

Console wise, while I typically pick up each Nintendo system fairly early, I didn't get a post-7th gen PS/Xbox til 2023, and I didn't retire my Xbox 360 and Wii til earlier this year.
