My personal rating: B+.

There were lots of games I’ve really been craving (e.g. Mario Tennis(!!), 2D Yoshi), there were some very surprising moments (e.g. Skylanders Swap Force meets Kirby Air Riders, the return of heavy Amiibo support, Virtual Boy & the Virtual Boy accessory), there was a lot of cool third-party (e.g. FFVII Remake release date, DQVII Remake, Hades II), and I now have an excuse to revisit Mario Wonder (which I’m hoping to see running at a crisp 120fps or 4k).

My main complaints would be that it was terribly weird in its execution: Mario 40th at the start? And Yoshi is the big Mario game??! What’s with the fixation on accessories (e.g. Amiibo, Rosalina’s Storybook, Talking Flower toy, etc.)? Why close with Fire Emblem? And $70 for the Mario Galaxy bundle??? What??!? Oh yeah…and, um, not super consumer friendly pricing. It was such a weird Direct filled with lots of very good content. It just didn’t stick the landing all too well.

Around the Network

Not upset with Nintendos lineup for this year. The Direct was just boring and a waste of time to me. Thats all.

I enjoyed it, Nintendo seems to be sticking to the only showing games coming out soon method with all games except Fire Emblem confirmed to be coming no later than the spring. I saw more than enough games that I plan to get in that time. Mario Tennis might have surprisingly been the best, that single player story mode looks really good. Graphically Yoshi looks really good, I am hoping there is some challenge too it and not too easy like some of the past Yoshi's. Wonder DlC is great to see, Metroid is great to get a release date. I've never played Dragon Quest 7, so I'll more than likely get that. It's nice to see RE 7-9 coming to the system. While Virtual Boy isn't for me, it's nice to see it for completionist/having all system represented.

It's not that the content itself is poor per se, but the presentation is just not that great post-Iwata, the Direct's felt better in those days.

There's also just weird time spent on a lot of strange things.

People didn't like it?

I only skimmed through it, but Resident Evil 9, Persona 3, Yoshie's Island and Fire Emblem I think are good new announcements.

I rate it B+ Plenty of good games were shown. They just included too much filler which has become a habit of theirs.

This was originally in OP, but decided it was too long. So, I’m posting here:

I too must confess that upon closing the Nintendo Direct this morning, the first thing I did was go onto VGChartz and share my grievances with the presentation—too much DLC, too many Amiibo, no system sellers, weak “one last thing,” etc. But upon having taken a moment to step back and reflect, I think there is a very important observation to make. Here is Nintendo’s first-party (and Pokémon) lineup between now and Spring 2026:

- DKBananza (DLC) [Today]

- Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 [October 2nd, 2025]

- Pokémon Legends Z-A [October 16th, 2025]

- Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment [November 6th, 2025]

- Kirby Air Riders [November 20th, 2025]

- Metroid Prime 4: Beyond [December 4th, 2025]

- Mario Tennis Fever [February 12th, 2026]

- Virtual Boy NSO [February 17th, 2026]

- Super Mario Bros Wonder (DLC) [Spring 2026]

- Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream [Spring 2026]

- Yoshi and the Mysterious Book [Spring 2026]

And even if you do not want to include DLC nor ports (e.g. Mario Galaxy 1+2), this is a thoroughly dense line-up of releases by Nintendo standards (and especially for this time of year. Nintendo typically avoids releasing anything during the months of December & January). I mean… Pokémon, Zelda, Kirby, and Metroid are all 2w away from each other. How could anybody possibly be upset with that?? That all being said, I believe this Direct could’ve been improved in many ways. In particular, why was info so scarce? E.g. (i) No info on the single-player component of Mario Wonder DLC; (ii) No info on Tomodachi Life nor Rhythm Heaven; (iii) Next-to-nothing regarding the Mario Galaxy Movie; (iv) Nothing more than some brief snips of gameplay from MP4B; etc. And maybe this is a personal taste thing…but why was FE the closer? And why was a Yoshi game announced as the big Mario 40th Anniversary title?

But looking past what are nothing more than logistical screws up, what more should we have realistically expected from this presentation? Why do you feel let down? Glancing back at the NS1 generation, such a lineup during the interlude period of December through February would’ve been unheard of, and I wouldn’t want Nintendo to be spoiling everything post-February 2026, otherwise then the February 2026 Direct a lot of its steam. This truly was a very solid Direct as far as its contents are concerned, though maybe doesn’t hold up quite so strong to the quality of June 2024 nor April 2025 (which, I’d argue, were among Nintendo’s two strong Direct presentations of all time).

Lots of ports and Nintendo remembering us of games we already new were coming. I rate directs based on new announcements, and new games announced here were:

Resident Evil Requiem: A tier release, but there were rumors already, and the game was announced before. So I'll put it on A-

Dragon Quest VII: Remake of a mediocre entry of a even more mediocre IP. Art style looks like crappy, C tier

Fire Emblem: Looks like a proper sucessor to 3H, hyped. A tier for me

Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment: Another warriors game, as if the other 100 we had were not bad enough. D tier

Pokemon farming simulator with the name I forgot: lol, D tier

New DLC for Pokemon not yet released: Aside from the fact we have no idea what's about, it's pretty crappy to release DLC before the game. Screams cut-content for me. So F tier because it pissed me off

DK Bananza DLC: Looks alright but not must play, B tier if the price is reasonable

Hit me if I forgot something!

Okay for such a long direct I would rate it as D-/C- tier easily. But since many minutes were dedicated to Mario stuff I'm willing to give it a pass and understand only 40 minutes were from an actual direct

For 40 minutes, this was a C tier direct I believe

Wait... The Mario Galaxy pack is 70 dollars??

It is the pricing aswell, DK DLC being Paid DLC, Mario Galaxy being 40$ each...
