Here are some songs about video games that I would like to share. They are not necessarily songs taken from video game soundtracks, but still mention or are related to games in some way.

Proto Culture by Del The Funkee Homosapien

This is probably my favorite hip-hop song about gaming. He mentions a bunch of pre-2000 classics. Gotta love a song that recognizes how awesome Rival Schools is.

PS2 by Litany

A love song about a boy that happens to have the name of one of the greatest consoles ever as its title.

Video Games by Lana Del Ray

I think this song is about a woman complaining about her boyfriend playing too much video games. Pretty emotional actually.

Green Hill Zone  by Jon Batiste

A piano cover of the Green Hill Zone music from the acclaimed and award-winning musician Jon Batiste. I imagine he must have played Sonic growing up and it is pretty cool he wanted to record a cover of this track.

Street Fighter Mix  by DJ Toure ft. Mistah Fab

This was part of a promotional album released to advertise Super Street Fighter II Turbo: HD Remix. This is my favorite track. It's great for working out and features cool Street Fighter references.

Do you have any similar music suggestions?

Definitely the Todd Howard Song (It just works), which is about how it just didn't work at Bethesda ;)

Might now be one month too late, but Gamer's Christmas also comes to my mind:

Finally, the Wii didn't start the fire (Yes, it's to the tune of We didn't start the fire), basically recapping the entire history of videogames. And actually made it rhyme!

I saw this band open up for The Queers a few years back. Great live show but it embarrassingly took me a few listens to realize it was about Minecraft.

Though I prefer this version.

And of course a classic:

Teenage Bottlerocket are ace.

There's a prog / power metal band called Master Sword who (unsurprisingly) write songs about The Legend of Zelda. They just put out a new album called Toying with Time, which is based on Majora's Mask.

Fierce Deity also put out some Zelda themed stuff, but may have dabbled in Souls / Elden Ring themes as well.

But yeah, if you're into metal, I'd suggest going to the metal archives (metal-archives.com) and using their search function. Each band has lyrical themes on their profile page, so if you search 'video games' or a specific game series using themes as the search criteria, any relevant results will come up. Not saying they'll all be good though.

Couple of our Nordic examples come to mind.

Apparently this is a song about Overwatch. I don't really know anything about that game.
