What will be the launch title for Nintendo's Next Console?

3D Mario 26 53.06%

Mario Kart X 13 26.53%

Metroid Prime 4 5 10.20%

Super Smash Brothers 1 2.04%

There has been some speculation in regards to what Nintendo will put as their launching titles. Will there just be one? Will there be multiple? Which one(s)?

3D Mario

Metroid Prime 4

Mario Kart X

Smash Brothers

Pokémon: Let's Go Johto!

Other?

And out of these, what will be the flagship game of the next Nintendo console?

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 160 million (was 120 million, then 140 million, then 150 million)

PS5: 130 million (was 124 million)

Xbox Series X/S: 54 million (was 60 million, then 57 million)

3D Mario seems to make the most sense, mostly because of the 6 year, soon to be 7 year gap.

Mario Kart 9 or 10 or whatever they will call it will be a year 2 release. They'll want a bigger install base and they'll be able to use it to get a post launch bump (or mountain). Same for Smash, and let's be honest, it's possible there won't be another Smash title. Not likely, but possible.

Metroid Prime 4 does seem to make sense, but it could also just get a Deluxe treatment a year later, but I don't see Nintendo doing that.

I think a Donkey Kong 3D game could be the Mario Odyssey of the Switch 2.

And there will definitely be a quirky game like Arms (could be Arms 2) or 1-2 Switch that takes advantage of one of the unique features of the system.

I'm really curious what third parties are cooking. There's no way they are going to be caught flat footed this time around. I expect quite a bit of "this is what Nintendo fans like" content hitting the launch window. Whether they'll get it right will have to be seen. Just look out for the next Rabbids Kingdom Battle (with Nintendo character tie-ins or not).

I agree that a 3D Mario makes the most sense, and a quirky game that will showcase the innovative tech of the system.

A guarantee of the 3rd parties will be Call of Duty, due to the Microsoft/Nintendo agreement.

I think that Nintendo will try to get Hollow Kinght: Silksong to launch on it as well (If its ready of course).

That would be very fun. May I ask on why you think so? :)

Sure.

I think it is very weird that they did such extensive DLC on Mario Kart this far after its release. At this point just launching Mario Kart with new courses would feel underwhelming, especially since there are nearly 100 tracks in Mario Kart 8. Basically Mario Kart 8 is just too big and full of content. It's hard to imagine a straight up sequel that won't feel like a downgrade in some sense, and considering this is one of their biggest system sellers, I don't think they want that. They need something that will make people feel like it's worth buying a new system for.

I think the most likely thing they could do is open it up to more Nintendo franchises. They already have done a little bit of that in the DLC, but it would definitely be cool to see Metroid themed levels, Kirby themed levels, Pokemon, etc. And of course characters from those franchises. It also serves as advertising for their franchises, which would kind of make it perfect for a launch title.

Oh that would be very cool indeed. So Nintendo would be expanding outside the Mario Universe and letting other characters in, like Smash (at least thats the concept I think of when you described this). And they can have game specific tracks, like Victory Road (Pokémon), Darkling Woods (Fire Emblem), Halberd (Kirby), ZDR (Metroid), etc...
I agree that this idea for Super Mario Kart (or whatever it will be called) is a step up from what Mario Kart 8 Deluxe + DLC brought to the table.
It has also been +10 years since the release of Mario Kart 8.

If we are discussing the immediate launch(first week) or the launch window (first year) ?

To me a 3D Mario game seems pretty obvious to come out there. There's also Metroid Prime 4 which to me has followed now in the same footsteps as BOTW from WiiU to Switch.

Other than that, I feel like launching a new Mario Kart game for the 2025 Holiday season would be just perfect to cement itself solidly.

Other than that ... I feel like we need to see a project from Monolith Soft too in the same period.

They can keep their munitions for the following years like DKC, Mario Party, a new 3D Kirby, Yoshi, Splatoon, etc ...

I feel like just with what I've talked about previously, most hardcore fans would cave in during the first year making it an early success at the very least.

Btb, don't expect the next BIG Zelda game to show up before the middle years of the system.

Mario Kart 9 and some weird new game to show off the systems capabilities.

I think this forum can be focusing on the opening day. But if people specify I don't have a problem with that.

Your reasoning and logic is sound, and it makes a lot of sense. I'm excited for 2024.
