I hate to be right on this one and I don't like to make grim predictions but the US death toll will be over 100,000 people.

So Trump cuts the CDC budget

I'm not sure where you heard that. Here's what I found:

Trump reverses on request to cut CDC, NIAID funding

After weeks of criticism, the Trump administration has reversed course on its request to cut funds for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in its 2021 budget.

"This FY 2021 Budget amendment increases funding for CDC to ensure that the Agency has the resources beginning October 1, 2020, to continue its critical public health mission," White House Budget Chief Russ Vought wrote to Congress in a letter dated Tuesday.

Just last week, Vought doubled down on the administration's request to cut health funds in the 2021 budget, telling a House Appropriations subcommittee that "no, I’m not sending up a budget amendment.”

The administration had proposed cutting $1.2 billion from the CDC and $451 million from NIAID as compared to current funding.

In his Tuesday letter, Vought sought to increase CDC funding to $8.3 billion, about $100 million more than current levels, as well as a $440 million increase to the NIAID, a touch below current funding levels.

I am proud to finally show you the result of this intensive and long work of research (since March 04th.)
I will update it one more time, with 5-6 more maps, then I stop, at the end it is losing its meaning because of the disparity of tests made in countries getting larger and larger by the time. It is a visual work, it doesn't pretend to provide exploitable data.

Very well made and informative.  Someone needs to make a similar video just for the US map.

Any takers here? Don't look at me - I'm still busy defending my opinion on the USA defunding its WHO donations.

Spoke, look I can't stand Trump either. But he's not a 100% asshole, more like 95. I don't want to see the CDC get less money than they need. This year or next or forever. Otherwise, we would really be dependent upon the WHO. God help us then.

For some countries it was a real nightmare really, some of them were releasing data, then decided to stop, then releasing it again...I had to go through 3 global re-checking process for all damn countries to be sure to have everything right at the end.

By the way, I think I will organize a game where I give 100$ to the person who will be able to learn by heart the name of the 20 Finnish counties and repeat it without reading.

I could have never completed this work if I had not been locked in my flat for 12 days.

This might upset a few people in this thread. The relation of the W.H.O to China and the Director General of the W.H.O not even having a medical degree. Even the Guardian had to admit (despite the title they used in the article) that China held off information relating to the virus for at least 6 days which could have saved lives.

I would have expected the W.H.O to be a organisation that isn't influenced by politics...now I see why people are edgy about funding it altogether, even though it is supposed to help everyone.

Good to see this site is still going

US Federal reopening pan is pretty good.

Phase 1: 14 days of decreasing cases and flu like illnesses needed to enter this phase.

1. Vulnerable people shelter in place.

2. 6ft social distancing

3. Avoid Large gathering and unessential travel

4. Employers should encourage return to work in phases.

5. Visits to senior centers banned

6. Gym can open with social distancing in place.

Phase 2: Another 14 day decline.

1. Vulnerable people shelter in place

2. 50 people gatherings and non essential travel can happen.

3. Schools, daycare, and camps can open.

4. Visits to senior centers banned.

Phase 3: Another 14 day decline.

1. Continue social distancing and hygienic practices

2. Senior centers can reopen to public visits.

3. Bars and restaurants can increase capacity.

I don't think the director needs a medical degree. Many politicians also never studied what their position in a government is. It's just important that these people understand the information they get from those who really do the work.

Most here also know that China and the WHO did a lot of shit. That doesn't change that without the WHO, the situation around the world would be much worse now and that we might have heard about this virus and how bad it really is much later as we did.

There is a lot which can be done to improve the WHO but not having the WHO or a similar world wide operating organization would be stupid.
