What are some big franchises that have never appeared in a Xbox conference?

Big franchises? Not alot. Most of the missing JP series are fairly niche, Dragon Quest and Persona are two of the few larger JP IP not on Xbox, but I doubt Phil would walk out a late port of DQ11 or Persona 5 at an event like this, but it's not impossible I guess. As far as big western franchises go, quite alot of them have been on Xbox stage in the past, off the top of my head I'm hard pressed to think of any that haven't been on an Xbox conference at some point, at least any that could release in 2020. This statement makes it seem like we're mainly looking at new IP from western AA/AAA devs, indie games, and possibly new games in some smaller JP series that have never been on Xbox before.

The way he mentions the entire AC franchise makes me think that when he said "games that haven't been on an xbox stage before" means old ip's that were only on other platforms.

If it's true about the show focusing on 2020 games than i expect a few ports of older games there. Plus, i expect we'll see maybe 10+ games on the show and i doubt they'll all be new ip's.

Dying Light being in development hell makes me a little hopeful. Clashing direction and burning through money.....might help negotiations from any acquisitions ;)

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

"In case you guys wondered, Techland was not acquired by another publisher,” Sondej tweeted shortly after the rumours released. “We’re still an independent studio, and will deliver Dying Light 2 on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.”

There we go, always thought it was unlikely (well up until these rumours of development being rough but it seems like those were a mistranslation), too expensive and too big.

Soon to be an EA studio, confirmed.

Shame they didn't acquire Techland, 2 more AAA teams would have really bolstered their 1st party output. MS really needs to act soon on acquiring more studios, especially AAA. There are very few AAA indie studios left these days, and they can't really afford to let Sony, Google, or Amazon beat them to the punch on acquiring those that remain. If they truly want to hit 4 AAA's a year like they claim, they need more AAA capable teams than they have currently, which either means expansion of more current AAA 1st party studios into multi-team studios, creating more new AAA studios from the ground up than just two (Playground RPG and The Initiative), or acquiring some of the remaining indie AAA studios. Acquiring more AA and A studios certainly won't hurt either, if they really want Gamepass to be a good value worth paying $15 a month for, they'll need plenty of exclusive content paced evenly through the year; ideally they should be working towards having 1 AAA and 1 A or AA exclusive every 3 months.

Tbh, I don't think it's really necessary to buy more studios just because you want more AAA content. Even the smaller devs MS now owns, those people will get more experienced, and ambitious over time, and they'll make bigger games. What's important is that you have strong foundations. You can always grow a studio to meet new goals.

That said, I obviously wouldn't mind seeing MS make another big splash, but I definitely think they're in a good place right now.

So new story DLC for a fighter is pretty unique and all but $40 for that and three new fighters? wow.

Hmm, so no actual gameplay demo then. Now I'm really starting to wonder what they're gonna spend most of their time on at this event.

I would keep expectations tempered tomorrow.

Yep. Definitely not expecting much at this point.

3rd party stuff is the most uninteresting, but at least MS is the first to show it.

Bummed they aren’t getting Techland. The others aside from CD just aren’t worth the buyout. Pinning all my hopes on a Japanese acquisition cause that’s what they really need.

I'm starting to get the sense that this showcase tomorrow is a mistake. The first time you're showing gameplay on your next gen platform should be high profile, and memorable. The closer we've gotten to this, the less it sounds like it's going to be either of those things.

How do you folk feel about 3rd party leaks, cause I've just seen one that makes me a happy man.

I'll spoiler tag just in case.

Spoiler!
Jeff Grubb: Oh and that HD Remake of a EA game is the Mass Effect Trilogy

The messaging and insiders are all over the place. Idk if I should be hyped for this event or not.
