Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Digital Foundry Hellblade Switch port analysis- Really impressive port

I am blown away by just how much detail the porting studio was able to keep on Senua's character model. You can see a clear downgrade when it comes to comparing the environments, and the resolution decrease is noticeable, but man oh man is Senua's character model impressive for a Switch game.

The character model is between decent (in game) and good (on cutscene), but the background graphic are bad (like PS3 era graphic)  . On top of very blurry because low resolution (as expected). Overall is a decent port but compared to doom is slightly better , also the reason why it looks like a good port because the games it self is lack of freedom of exploration and open area and more linear. But it's a good one, i prefer the look of Wolfenstein 2 because wolfenstein 2 on Switch play very smooth and still keep the graphic stable.

Edit: The cutscene actually not real time on Switch so it's explain why it looks good

The cutscenes are video files that show a much higher detailed character model and rendering quality compared to the actual gameplay graphics. It doesn't look horrible, it looks okay but it's nowhere near the quality shown on the cutscenes.

The compromise is undeniable, but it doesn't look bad.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Having analyzed Senua in several different 3D programs, that is a testament to how impressive the model is overall. Good on Switch for being able to do it justice!

Great port for a great game. I will definitely be picking this up on Switch.

I was speaking only approximately when I said resolution looked like Doom on Switch but it turns out I was exactly right; 720p-576p docked.

This really is a remarkable conversion given that unlike a lot of other PS4/Xbone to Switch conversions like Doom, Wolfenstein II, and Outlast II, the devs did not have the luxury of being able to halve the framerate from 60 to 30. They had to close the gap entirely through optimization and cutting back assets and rendering, and the fact they managed to do so without ruining the game's core look is a heck of an achievement.

This might just be the single most impressive Switch port to date. QLOC have done right by Switch owners, I really hope we see them work on more ports to Switch in the future.

Playing this today and yeah it really does feel on another level to some of the titles which are appearing on the Switch, like there is a ton of work gone into keeping the core game exactly as it should be, the cutscenes and music/voice work in it is all there exactly as it should be and the visuals of the gameplay have taken a hit but a very well calculated one, it is one of the games where I'm rather shocked to see it running in any way shape or form on the Switch and there it is at a near locked 30fps.

Also loving that this is the 3rd MS owned game on the system, fingers crossed for some Forza or Halo lol.... the dream of that DS Halo demo can finally come to life!

Fancy hearing me on an amateur podcast with friends gushing over one of my favourite games? https://youtu.be/1I7JfMMxhf8

Heads up for those who have it; similar to Xenoblade 2, you get a better quality picture if you set your Switch TV output setting to 720p.
