Interesting but the hexus data is just a projection with no context and the steam spy data has red letters next to the 10 million , is it a surprise to any one that pc gaming is big ,you only have to look at asia to see it's huge.

Why does suppositions about length of playtime have to do with PC revenue?

Selling 10 mill at $18 on one platform compared to 20mill on two at $60 isn't the same , and is one of the reasons why many games are on console then PC.

I for one am happy that PC is doing well but I'm also happy that consoles are because that means gaming is doing well , I don't mind people extolling PC sales but there is no need to try to down play consoles it's not like the boom in Asia has come at the expense of console gaming.

1) It's been big around other parts of the world besides MMO gold farming China, especially when you have companies like Blizzard hosting their own events each year along with competitions for the lieks of Blizz and Valve with Dota and Riot with LoL etc.

2)I meant people playing it 4 years later in terms of the game still being alive, people 4 years later could also just be buying it for themselves or someone else.

3)You looked at SS and took $18 as being the default price, a quick gander at US and UK amazon for say the X360 version shows to be cheaper at $12.88 and £15:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Elder-Scrolls-Skyrim-Legendary-Xbox/dp/B00CJ8X25G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1457913049&sr=8-1&keywords=skyrim

http://www.amazon.com/The-Elder-Scrolls-Skyrim-Xbox-360/dp/B004HYK956

Skyrim was full price for the first year with every other platform, then the year after getting slashed slightly and of course as time goes on all games end up getting reduced in price, those that stay at full price years later only seem to come from those expecting insane amounts of wealth (while also not being down to earth with pricing and how to drive away people years later). Skyrim at the end of the day still sold a lot more on it;s own than two consoles having to combine to show for a single number, that's a big result either way.

I dunno, some here wouldn't care if PC gaming vanished and that alone would be unhealthy in general. I don't see why it;s fair to downplay PC and exclude any and all sales data, then suddenly use said sales daata (especially SS) against the platform but it;s not okay to call out console sales data, I honestly see issues with that because it;s not being fair to the platform yet it's also fine to say "I care but I don't really care, I'm just trying to save face", if you truly care, then by all means care but don't say you care but think it's fine to peg down PC at every turn (because it happens one way or the other on here far more than an unreleased console).

Skyrim for example has sold 20m copies worldwide across the PS3,360 and PC, Steam Spy shows just over 10m owners

You can scream and shout all you want about how console gaming>PC gaming but at the end of the day there are still more PC gamers than console, the revenue has been surpassed and the platform grows in number

Well, Skyrim was criminally poorly optimized on PS3, so many ppl skipped it. What u will say about that ?

Yes there is more PC users than before,  but PS4 also gets more users ( http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/219202/Sony_Nearly_half_of_all_PS4_owners_did_not_own_a_PS3.php )

17% of PS4 owners did not own any console last gen ( SHAME ON THEM ).31 % jumps from Wii and 360.

Also digital sales is up on PS4 compared to PS3.http://www.examiner.com/article/sales-of-digital-games-on-ps4-xbox-one-and-other-consoles-up-34-percent-2015

Also Sony is earning money on PS4 sales since day1, that's never happened before. PS Plus subscription is is up, thanks to multiplayer. They made great money, and the best is yet to come. I dont expect X1 or Wii U sales to grow anymore, and PS4 to grab this market.

@shadow: I wonder will PSVR have an effect.  I don't see a wii like effect because that was huge but I can see a Kinect like effect if it's successful.  The American economy has improved very nicely since the recession so people are probably more likely to splash the cash on expensive fads.

Well, peripherals have never given a huge boost to console sales before. The Kinect, arguably the most popular peripheral ever, actually did little to boost the 360's sales. In the U.S. the 360 had already hit its stride after the 360S was released just a few months before the Kinect, and the Kinect didn't seem to offer any substantial boost past launch month. It did very little to affect sales in Europe and Japan as well. VR could be different and actually be a significant system-seller for all we know, but given how peripherals have only ever been modest system-sellers at best and that that VR units will cost a pretty penny it seems unlikely that they will shift a ton of hardware on their own.

I don't know about that. the 360 did not follow a typical generation cycle and if it had only done the 360s without Kinect it's difficult to claim 360 would have had as big of a second wind as it did. Boosting sales, doesn;t necessarily mean an increase. In the back half of a generation the boost is seen more as slowing the decline in YoY sales rather than actually achieving YoY increases. I think Kinect is as responsible for how the 360 performed in its 2nd 5 years as the 360s.

And yet we've seen this happen before with PC, look at AK and MKX recently for example if you want to see the same picture.

By "gets more users", you mean more than PC?, because that doesn't seem to be accurate considering the userbase for PC has been growing for 3 decades compared to every few years per gen of a console that always ends up losing it's base by the next system that comes out, the fact it eventually loses it's base once a new system/gen begins shows weight the PC space has for carrying on for more than 30 years.

I don't really see PS4 having an entire grab on the market as a good thing for the console industry if two others are greatly losing out along with their respective bases, good for Sony people and Sony but not so rgeat for Nintendo and MS, not so great for their fans either.

Also look at the Ubisoft and EA charts, over the years EA has screwed over the respect they had from PC gamers along with PC ip's and Ubisoft just plain screwed up, Uplay still being seen as the worst client with Origin being "okay", and yet Blizzard is pretty high up there thanks to them not being a bunch of goits towards the platform thanks to WoW, Hearthstone, Starcraft II, Diablo III, Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm, all of them working great on PC compared to shoddy EA and Ubisoft port jobs now and then, that data harks back to your PS3 Skyrim port argument in the same manner.

Also look at the Ubisoft and EA charts,

1. I mean game sales by platform. The huge advantage in overallusers did not affect game sales. Console is over 50%, PC is more 20%.

2.No. I mean console sphere is getting bigger. 17% are newcomers if we talk about PS4.

3. I mean this console gen, not whole industry. Sooner or later the NX and X1.5 will launch and the game will start again.

4. Everybody gots what deserves, but the point is still standing - console are top dog in AAA videogames industry. Actually its kinda interesting that PS3/360 combo are on par with PC's %.

Looking at the numbers, it really doesn't seem like the Kinect did a whole lot. In the U.S. the 360 had already experienced a big rebound in baseline sales with the 360S. Q3 '10 sales were up a whopping 66.5% over Q3 '09 sales, while Q4 '10 sales were up 49.4% from Q4 '09 and Q1 '11 sales were up about 23.4% from Q1 '10. Looking at Europe we see the 360S initiating a decent boost to baseline sales, whereas the Kinect (not shown in the Euro chart, but released the same month as in the U.S.) doesn't seem to do much extra. November was actually down from the previous year, though December was up. Finally, in Japan we see a modest boost the week Kinect is released, but December sales were worse than the previous December and once 2011 begins sales drop.

If Kinect gave a boost to sales, it was modest and likely not long-lived, and if it provided any sustained boost in the U.S. and/or Europe it's impossible to differentiate between the Kinect's effect and the boost that had alread been initiated by the 360S.

I think if you added a PS3 line to the graph for US sales (the 360's strongest territory), it would further illustrate that Kinect didn't do much.

The Kinect doubled the install base overnight in the US.

1. When it comes to games like Skyrim it did and has done for MMO's among other genres (RTS on consoles despite their userbase numbers didn't really prove much either if we go by that).

2. That still isn't really answering a direct question.

3. I don't see the game starting again, not with this gen and with the way things have been with the previous one, I don't see another neck and neck race where everyone wins happening.

4. So PS3 got what it deserves when it got bad ports and people didn't want to support said ports on that platform whenever it happened?. I don't get why it's interesting to see 2 v 1 I see it being more interesting the other way around because 1 proved to do more than a worload of two having to be combined to go against the other 1.

"Doubled overnight," you say? LTD 360 sales in the U.S. were ~22.16M by the end of Oct. 2010. After November they had grown to ~23.53M, a 6.18% increase. Not quite a doubling. By the end of 2014 the 360 was up to about 42.4M in the U.S., still not a doubling even after another four years.

The June-Oct. period of 2010 was up 57.4% from the same period in 2009, while Nov. was up by 67.2% and Dec. was up by 42%. Also releasing in November 2010 was Black Ops, which may have moved some hardware itself. At best, the Kinect was a modest short-term system seller, having a comparable effect to a modest system-selling game.

Come on buddy, you clearly have the data in front of you. The 360 did not follow the traditional sales pattern, in fact sales increased after the Kinect came out. It was very responsible for the Install base doubling.

Glad you took the effort to point that all out, shadow. Kinect is an overrated peripheral in my opinion. It's not like it made candles float or something with it's minor boost to sales. Zhuge should never be a politician though. haha. You have to be vague as possible so you're more difficult to counter and there's less chance someone can do what shadow did.
