Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS2 discs and digital classics not compatible on PS4 through emulator

Here is how Sony should have made PS2 BC:

  • They should have made it true BC with disc. Free to play off of disc
  • If you have digital rights to any games from past consoles, you get a free version on PS4.
  • If you buy the game digital, It will come with trophies, up-res and all the snazzy new features. $15
  • For people with a disc, they can purchase Trophies and the whole shebang for $5. Disc must still be played off of.

I think the high pricing is dictated more by the publishers than Sony. Wasn't this the case with PS Now prices?

I look at that list, and really only want The Mark of Kri, but I'm not going to pay $15 to replay it. Improved graphics is nice, but I don't care about trophy support. I didn't create a gamertag for either system until this gen (XB1, PS4, I still haven't yet to created one for my Wii U.)

I do find it interesting that Sony was able to secure all of the Rockstar GTA games for launch of this, whereas MS BC was not able to have any of Rockstars games for their launch. Even though most of Rockstar games lead the list for requested games.

The way Sony is handling emulator is pretty lame.

I like the visual and performance upgrades the emulators are doing. I think its unrealistic to expect physical disc support (its a miracle X1 has it). But at the very least they should get out PS1 and PS2 Classics from PSN on PS4. Also, they should have a PSP emulator.

The impressive thing regarding XONE BC is that it's running PowerPC games on an x64 one...

Well that's emulation, you take hardware to work on a completely different arcitecture. Its nothing uncommon.

However, 360 emulation on X1 is probably the greatest achievment in video game emulation we've seen thus far.

Sony still listens but they wont listen to some random comments on forums or youtube instead in their pages.

So there you have it. Sony is as greedy as Microsoft. I really can't believe people would've thought otherwise... and unless the XONE starts closing the damn gap, we won't be seeing free PS2 emulation...

Stupid console wars...

There was ever a doubt that Sony wasn't just as greedy as MS? I don't think so. All big companies are greedy.
