I think you should try comparing the first year PS3 games to the PS4 ones...

Why do people keep saying this?  Under my TV is the 2015 version of the PS3 and the 2015 version of the PS4.  We don't live in the past. 

It's like me fighting an 80 year old man and hearing him say, "You should fight the person I was fifty years ago!"

The PS3 was made to be future proof.
The PS4 is more-so hurt by the diminishing returns as most of the ports you see on PS3-PS4, don't look that much better... If you can tell at all. Dead or Alive 5, which I haven't seen on PS4, looks exactly the same through youtube (i know) but the only thing that has apparently been upgraded on PS4 are the boob physics.

It's not worth upgrading, to me. Not yet.

I hope I don't say that when I'm 80.  Sounds like he got hit pretty hard fifty years ago, if he's talking like that.

But, I forgot to reply to that.  I was going to say the exact same thing. 

Some people are looking at it from a "what we can do right now," and others are looking at it from a "look how much better it could be later on."

The later doesn't mean anything, because what's important is what we're able to do with it right now.  Not what we might possibly get later, maybe.

I still play both and the PS3 OS compared to the PS4 is straight trash. Things take time so if there are features in the PS3 that are not yet on the PS4 I am sure they will make their way to the newer console.

Game-wise, in 2007 the PS3 received Uncharted, one year after the PS3 debut.

In 2015, the PS4 will receive Uncharted 4, about two years after the PS4 debut.

In 2008, the PS3 received MGS4, under the 2 year mark.

In 2015, the PS4 will received MGS5, around the two year mark (sooner if it's a summer release).

Infamous and Killzone made first year appearances on the PS4, as did LBP.

I suppose the only complaint, and it's not much of one, would be that some of the games that defined the Playstation brand in the 7th gen are the same ones defining the PS4 with some like LBP and MGS being available on last gen hardware.

If the discussion is in terms of original IPs, Infamous, Uncharted and LBP represented the early years of the PS3 whereas the PS4 really doesn't have anything that really defines it. The Order is really the only new 8th gen IP.

But as a platform tied to hardware specs, the PS4 still offers most of what the PS3 has now. The absence of external video playback off HDD, media remote, CD (nobody uses these anyway), and some of the lesser used PS3 functions are about it, which really just emphasizes more than anything that the PS4 is intended more as a dedicated gaming console, which is what the majority of Sony's customers wanted based on sales.

I used to use my PS3 to go to certain sites and download movies and music directly from the internet (illegal? Maybe...). Good times, bro.

This might be true but the problem is I buy consoles for gaming and that's it. Everything else is done through my HTPC. So I don't need an all around gaming console I need a gaming console that does gaming better then any other console.

I just wish my ps4 could:
- Have all my games in one "tab" subfolder or whatever, like PS3
- Could store video and MP3
- Could purchase and play all those PS1 and PS2 classics like the PS3.

I believe items 2 and 3 are not implemented because sony wants us to use their streaming service for music and games (which is nice but too expensive)

For what it's worth, the Wii had a ton of features that the Wii U lost. And, while the Xbox One is updating pretty fast, there was a time when it was lacking features, too. The PS4 will be fine. It's just moving slowly.

A lot of features microsoft added and is adding on are things the PS4 already had day one, like screenshotting. They had to make up ground quickly as one of the updates last year allowed people to see how much storage they had left. They rushed it out completely.
