Forums - Gaming Discussion - Can someone explain FF XIV to me?

Tagged games:

Is it worth it? I mean the initial $39.99 then the $12.99 per month. I would gladly pay it if it is. But I haven't played a FF game before. How are the combat and classes?

I plan to get it on PS4 by the way.

Ok off topic but...Why the hell are they making games where you have to pay an initial price for it and then on top of that a monthly subscription? ESO and now this game? WTF!!!

It's almost as if the subscription model is new.

Who knew!?

A lot.

To mention the biggest and most popular: World of Warcraft

I was under the impression WoW was only subscription based.

I'm talking about games that make you pay 40-60$ to actually buy the game AND THEN another 10-15$ subscription fee to actually play, such as the recent Elder Scrolls Online. You have to buy the 60$ game and then pay a subscription fee per month to play that 60$ game.

I think you misunderstood me lol.

Anyone here plays ARR? >.

The closest way to describe it would be WoW + Guild Wars 2. The fighting is more action based, with enemies telegraphing major attacks onto the ground for you to avoid. I suppose spellcaster combat is somewhat slower since you have casting time. The best part is your character isn't tied to a class, you just swap your weapon to change classes anytime you're not in combat. Every class can be leveled up separately, this includes combat, crafting, and gathering classes.

The crafting is quite fun unlike most games, since it's not just click recipe list with materials, get item. You actually have to use skills to balance crafting progress with item quality on limited resources. Not only does more quality give better items, but also more experience. Obviously though, you need to finish the item, so you can't get too greedy.

It's a great game, I played it for a while, but I just don't have time for a full MMO recently.
