Forums - Gaming Discussion - Both Ps4 and Xboxone will sell 100 Million Unit

I'm hoping the X1 can sell at par with the 360 let alone 100 million.

MS is in a financially better position than Sony, so I'm curious to see what MS is willing to do to compete.

One generation has little to do with the next, pretty much irrelevant.

Well I don't think you understand the consequence of that statement in regards to your argument.  Your argument started off as "people keep forgetting how strong the PS brand is compared to the Xbox worldwide."   If the previous generation is irrelevant, then the brand strength it gained in the previous generation is also irrelevant.  These two statements are contradictory.

Now I don't think you mean the previous generation(s) are irrelevant because clearly there is a notion of Playstation brand strength in Europe, especially if you break it down country by country.  And that strength is gained through previous generations.  My argument has been that the dynamics have changed since the days of Playstion 1 and 2 seeing as Nintendo has made more of a prescence in Europe and MS has become a major player in every market but Japan.  I had a secondary argument of 4 months of sales is not enough to to make solid predictions on which I don't see as an unreasonable statement.

What I do think your point was though is that markets appear to be unstable when it comes to brand dominance.  This is a point I will gladly concede as potentially being true.  Actually my original post questioned the stability of the American market when it comes to brands.  Someone else also just stated maybe customers aren't brand loyal.  This is something I doubt considering how brand loyalty is somethign that exists in almost every market but maybe not as strong with games.  That is why I stated Sony could be on the upward trail to getting back where they were in the PS2 days.  But it is just too early to determine.

That also means you as well, sp why are getting salty over someone elses opinion?

Its stronger then ever now...........................It's now taking back that market share it lost. Also, market share does not translate from one gen to the next ask Nintendo. The only reason 360 made the ground it did was Sony dropping every ball possible with ps3. The wii was a fad......... Are you ignoring the sales this gen for a reason? I think you are dwelling too much on the one generation sony didn't domiante instead of the 3 it has. How convenient. Saying the PS brand is not strong is laughable.

so give us your predictions.  If your so sure of what the future holds. Let us get you on the record.

How strong it USED to be.  I feel there is a lot of short term memory loss when people talk about the Xbox brand.  There was NO Xbox brand outside of America before the 360.  And even in America that brand was weak at best.  Similarly, there was no Nintendo brand outside of America and Japan.  Europe was always Nintendo's weakest market even when they were facing Sega back in the old days.  In the 6th generation PS2 did 55 million in Europe, Gamecube did 4.4 million, and Xbox did 7.1 million.  In the 7th generation in Europe PS3 did 33 million, Wii did 33.7 million, and 360 did 25 million.  The brand is not a monopoly in Europe anymore.

I won't argue that the brand of Playstation is strong in Europe.  What I will argue is that it is as strong as it used to and that it is not strong over its competition.  It could become strong this generation, but right now we can't say it is strong.  Not when it suffers such a heavy market loss as that.

Funny thing is, many people aren't brand loyal either.

Lets get all of your predictions. Since this thread is about both hitting 100,000,000 sales. Some people agree and some don't. So put your reasons and your predictions.http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=178124&page=1#

Brand loyality usual grows with age. You will notice a lot of old people stick to certain things. some don't but a lot do. Old habits. You name it.

Haha I am smart enough to know to keep predictions vague and without actual assertions.  Well at least now I am haha.  5 years ago I might have jumped at the chance, but no longer.

Not stong over its competition.... How about a reality check.

Last weeks WW sales, overa ll numbers home and portable hardware.

PS 275k
Nin 190
X 114k

Better yet lets only look at console numbers only, it is what we are debating.

PS 213k
Nin 56k
X 115

PS numbers greater then its competition combined.

How bout new gen.

PS4 144k
wiiU 77k
X1 42

Once agian PS numbers greater then its competition combined.

Really want to see the stregth of the PS brand.

PS3 67k
X1 76k
WIIU 42

Not only is the nearly decade old PS3 holding its own vs the Xbox1 but its beating the Wiiu, how about that for current brand strength ?

Wanna talk Europe specifically.

Top 5 selling games in Europe are on PS.
11 of the top 15 are on PS.
PS3 and PS4 COD Fifa GTA BF4 AC4 all currently chart higher then 360 XB1 versions.

then there is this Europe only hardware.

PS4 61,285
PS3 24,053
XOne 17,844
360 12,749
WiiU 9,895
Wii 6,944

Two of the top selling consoles are PS
PS3 is out selling Wii and WiiU combined
PS3 is out selling Wii WIIu 360 X1
PS4 alone is selling double the entire Xbox brand (360 and X1)
PS3 and PS4 are out selling all Nintendo and Xbox consoles.

And all this with a supply constrained out of stock PS4

So "not strong over its competition" in your eyes ? dont worry with Japan soon added to the count PS brand and PS4 will tower over the competition even more.  Maybe then ill be strong enough.

Is this not domminating ?

The xbox one will struggle to hit 50 million, let alone 100 million.

If MS shows a good reason behind Kinect and gets the core hyped, then yes, if not, then dropping Kinect and dropping lower then PS4 would be the next move and only way to this. It is way to early to tell but I don't think either will hit 100 million. PS4 hype is hi right now but will die down in March. Titanfall needs to bring the heat and they need to release that damn Titanfall bundle.

Initial sales of PS4 are that of the hardcore crowd. The games are ok but MS does have them on this front so far.

Hypes gonna die in the month there Biggest launch game comes out in, Hmm not sure about that one.
