I want to get into the series, but I don't want to start from the beginning. Netflix has the seasons from 2005-2011, so should I just start from there or go farther back? I also see that they have the doctors fom 1964 to 1989, so I MIGHT check a few of those doctors out at some point far down the line.

Just start with the 2005 Netflix one, if you like it a lot go back.

Definitely start with Doctor Who 2005 Season 1!

Eccleston was a great Doctor in his time, so it is the best place to start. Go any earlier than the 2005 series...and you might not like the show right off the bat...tis quite out-dated.

I'd recommend just going right into the 2005 series. While it is a sequel to the original, it was made 20 years later so it was written to be watchable with no knowledge of the 60's to 80's series. The first few episodes of the 2005 series are rather slow, and a tad dated by now, but things really pick up by episode 6.

If you are in a rush to catch up it's possible to start with series 5 (2010), but Season 8 isn't planned to start until some time in the second half of this year, so you have plenty of time :)

For me, Tom Baker will always be The Doctor. Those were some of the best episodes and had the best assistant with Sarah Jane (and K-9). That was the version that made the series.

The Dr Who since 2005 if 95% self contained. I've never watched the old ones

start from 2005 but the first few episodes are really really boring, it kicks in through the end of the first season though
