NINTENDO WILL SURVIVE 100 YEARS AND OUTLIVE ZYNGA, says ODDWORLD dev.

Oddworld Inhabitants founder Lorne Lanning praises Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, and says the company will survive the next 100 years.

Oddworld Inhabitants founder and Abe's Oddysee creator Lorne Lanning has said he believes Nintendo will outlive some of its competition and still be around in a hundred years.

"When I look at the history of Nintendo, I say, 'Nintendo is gonna be here in 100 years.' I have no doubt," said Lanning in an interview with VentureBeat.

"I doubt Microsoft will be here in 100 years," he added. "I know Zynga won’t be here in 100 years. I’ve been here longer than Zynga."

In the short term, many games industry analysts have called the potential of the Wii U into question, with the console being forced up against PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the coming months. The company is currently experiencing rude health with the 3DS, however, and has billions of dollars in its cash reserves.

For the Wii U, the Mario maker has currently lined up The Wonderful 101, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Bayonetta 2, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and Super Mario 3D World for release across 2013 and 2014.

Nintendo, which is a 124-year-old company, was founded in 1889 as a producer of playing cards, but attempted to diversify its business in the twentieth century. Before arriving at family-friendly video games, the company attempted to get rich with instant rice, nude playing cards, and discreet love hotels.

Lanning also praised Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, saying "Satoru Iwata came out and said people were asking him, 'When are you gonna lay off your development staff?' I don’t remember exactly what he said, but it was basically, 'Laying off development is not going to solve our problems. Building great games is what we do and we’re going to continue doing it.'"

"When he said that, in my opinion, he was immortalized in the creative community. I would work with him in a second. When a man in that type of position, in a world where the golden rule is the rule and that’s what’s expected at public companies, he stood up and said, 'That’s not what we’re about. We’re about building great stuff. We have great people to build great stuff. We’re gonna do that."

Speaking about his current development projects, Lanning added that "we’re still building what we set out to build. Now we have to be clever and smaller in how we think, but we’re more self-empowered than we’ve ever been."

Software makes money.

Nintendo software will always sell a fuckton providing the install base is large enough.

Nintendo will never, ever leave this industry.

They lasted about a 100 years as of now! I think they can survive another 100

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

I doubt any gaming as we know it will be left in 50 years, let alone 100. They will likely outlive most, including Zynga, though.

The issue with Zynga is it is in quite the turbulent market. It could expand, or just disappear overnight.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I think they could be, largely on the basis on their IP properties.

They are basically the Japanese Walt Disney.

I imagine though like Disney, Nintendo will probably morph more into a media/entertainment company as "video game hardware" becomes more of a thing of the past.

They are 124 Years old now, that's older than Sony,Zynga,MS and Apple combined

I hope he's right. Nintendo has given me, my friends, and my family so many great memories. And they still make the best games on the planet. I hope my kids and grandkids get to experience the future of Nintendo.

To be honest, as much as it kinda irks me, it wouldn't stun me if Disney at some point made a serious acquisition bid for Nintendo.

Probably not any time soon, but at some point in the next 20-30 years, probably well after Mr. Yamauchi has passed away and perhaps even Mr. Miyamoto himself (kinda sad to think about, but that's life).

In the future I think you'll probably have 4-5 entertainment "entities" that own everything.

Pretty much, yeah. I can't imagine any way that Sony or MS could be as successful in a 3rd party only market, right now anyway. Perhaps their IPs will grow to the level of Mario over time, but I'm not confident.

Also, they won't be bought by Disney, because Disney don't care much. They're not even putting Kingdom Hearts on the Wii U, of course.

what an idiotic statement

how the hell can he say something like this with a straight face?

he just plucked a number out of his arse.

I'll say that they aren't here in a hundred years, nor Sony and MS too, not in the form we know them now at any rate.

Where is your evidence to back that up?!

I think he has way more going with his claims than you. Nintendo has a huge fortune in the banks and they are still fine even the the wii U fails miserably. It's not outrageous to claim that they will be around in 100 years.

Where is your evidence to say that they won't be around in 100 years? Do you have any statistics to back that up, what are your foundations for such a claim? Arent you pulling the argument out of your arse yourself?
