What was your first impression of...(Sonic The Hedgehog ?)

Hello, welcome to the 1st impressions thread! I will be asking you what your 1st impression was to many different games or franchises. I will try to do a new one every so often depending on how many people participate during each game. You can talk about the characters, gameplay, story, graphics, or whatever else you want.

Now: Sonic The Hedgehog

Past impressions: Mario, Crash Bandicoot

My first experience with Mario was Super Mario 64. I was a young kid at the time and it was one of the first games I ever played. I thought that the game was awesome! I liked the game even though I had no idea what I was really doing until I was a bit older.

For some reason, I really liked the character Toad. From then on, I was hooked on Mario Kart and Mario Party. I used to play Mario Party everyday as a child for hours. Great times!

dont remember, i was too young back then. but i loved mario a lot

If you're talking about the character Mario, my first encounter with him was with the Atari 2600 port of Donkey Kong. I didn't know his name was Mario at the time and my first impression of the game was not great because it was pretty bad port. I love the Arcade original, but it was the Atari 2600 version that I played first. The first time I knew I was playing a Mario game was Mario Bros. which was a much better port on the 2600 and a fun game.

If you're talking about Super Mario Bros., my first experience was at a friend's house. We had pizza and I found out he had a Nintendo. I don't know why he didn't tell me, I guess his brother was the gamer in the family and not him. Anyway, I remember it clearly. It was like playing a cartoon. The graphics moved so smoothly and the screen scrolled for what seemed like forever. I was used to single screen games like on the Atari VCS so the NES seemed like a wonder machine and Super Mario Bros. was a revelation. I knew I had to have an NES, but it would be years before I'd have my own. The first time I played Super Mario Bros. is one of my most vivid gaming memories and it probably helped define my taste in games.

Since then Mario has fallen off my radar. I know the games are still good, but I am just not interested anymore.

Same thing with me actually. I still buy Paper Mario soon after launch but that's about it. I normally end up buying Kart but not until much later during a game drought or when I'm really board. I no longer buy Mario Party and normally skip both 2D & 3D Mario.

I have plenty of Wii games to still buy. Various Mario titles are some of them. Hopefully they will all go down in price. I was too late with Mario Sunshine and now the price has gone up after Gamstop disco tiniest selling used GC games. Luigis mansion is expensive as well!

This game is short but awesome! Better than Sunshine, Galaxy, and Galaxy 2 IMO.

When I was 4 or 5 years old I played the original Super Mario Bros. (NES) at my best friend's house. We weren't any good but his brother always made it to world 7 or 8. Super Mario Bros. was my very first videogaming experience. We also played Chip & Dale, Super Mario Bros. 2, DuckTales and Adventure Island. Later, when the N64 launched I saw the advertisements for Mario 64 and begged my parents to buy me one for christmas. I had never wanted a gaming console before but those ads were so amazing! Another friend of mine got his N64 for birthday and I distinctly remember us kids sitting around the TV, taking turns playing - we simply couldn't make it past the bridge in the first level, we always fell down or got hit by the goomba lol. Later that year I got my N64 (Mario 64 bundle) as a christmas present and ever since videogames have been a huge part of my life.

Blow me bagpipes! Someone found the secret video of me getting my N64! Surely, no one else has has seen this yet? I could pay you quite a sum if you got rid of it, you know? I'm a rather wealthy duck and these vids are no good for my public image
