Nintendo's kart racer is consistently one of the highest-rated of all time with each release. They are almost without question the best kart racers available for each platform for which they are made (MK64 for N64, MKWii for Wii, MK7 for 3DS, etc).

Nintendo recently revealed that the Wii U iteration of the franchise will appear in playable form at E3, so presumably it is already well into development and is not too far off from release. Unfortunately for Nintendo, there is already an excellent kart racer available on their new console. They'll have to step up their game if they want to impress.

What can Nintendo do with Mario Kart U that hasn't already been done in Sega's Racing Transformed? Transformed features a fleshed-out evolution of Mario Kart 7's flight- and water-based kart racing, local multiplayer up to five players thanks to the GamePad, and a wide variety of gameplay content.

Will Nintendo change direction to avoid simply copy-pasting Racing Transformed? Will they fine-tune the same style to an even greater degree than Sega's racer? Or will Sonic be the new King of Kart Racers?

use the tablet as the actual wheel and use the extra screen on certain stages like dark stage that makes the stage dark from time to time.... and forces you to use your screen, or under water, or space or on a lava... something like that... but that forces you to buy more tablet controller :P

I don't know what they will do but I just want good old fashioned pure Mario Kart racing, like Mario Kart 7. Maybe a little less blue shell. Sonic & Allstar Racing Transformed was great so if Nintendo does something like that I'd be down with it.

Hmmm....I suspect it will be exactly the same as the last 7 Mario Karts....so no direction

I don't see how it would be copy pasting if they evolve what they have done in MK7.
I'm hoping for 5 players which shouldn't be a problem, some remakes of the older tracks plus a bunch of new crazy ones.

haven't bought a MK since MKDS so can't wait for this one!

Same as usual but with improved graphics.

6 player local is a must, Nintendo are morons if they don't include this.

I'll say this as well; I deeply hope that Retro studios aren't making it, it would be a phenomenal waste of their talent.

They will take the online they did with MK7 and build on it to expand the online community with worldwide rankings, tournaments, hopefully clans and other stuffs.

Other than that, same old with improved graphics (wich is not a bad thing). Gamepad play, and we will obviously be able to use the gamepad's gyro as a driving wheel. Maybe give the option to choose either having the 2nd screen as a map like for MK7 or the 2nd screen having first person view and TV showing you normal view.

Better Online, and ......

Track Builder. It'll be easy with the gamepad!

It'll pretty much be the same gameplay that we all know and love, with hopefully (and undoubtedly) better online functionality being on the Wii U. HD visuals certainly can't hurt and add in some nifty touchpad features? Okay I take that back, skip on the touchpad Nintendo, keep the basics : /
