Masahiro Sakurai: The Wait For Smash Bros. Will Be Worth It

Posted Fri, 14 Dec 2012 | 17:00 GMT by Andy Green

Smash Bros. is coming to Wii U and 3DS

Producer stops tweeting to focus solely on upcoming brawler

Masahiro Sakurai, producer of Kid Icarus: Uprising, is currently working hard on the next instalment of the Smash Bros. series which will be available on both Wii U and 3DS. In his latest Famitsu column Sakurai reiterated that the game is still a long way off, and that Nintendo fans would have to wait a while longer.

Because he has taken on this mammoth task, Sakurai has decided to shut himself away and has said he’ll be a lot more anti-social with fans, especially on Twitter:

I hardly ever write anything on Twitter any longer, and that's because I think right now is the time to stop tweeting and start putting in a real effort here. If I could put it a really harsh way, I think it'd be better if I could be forgotten by gamers for a while.

Sakurai feels that sometimes things said on Twitter become misconstrued and rumours can snowball, resulting in disappointment when things don’t happen.

I don't like it when a tweet or whatever leads to needless speculation getting spread around. For example, when I tweet about playing some game, some people immediately get the idea that that character is in the new Smash Bros. Then people fan the flames on it, people start to think it's really true, people get angry about it. Nobody benefits.

It doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing much of Masahiro Sakurai until the game is finished then, so if you were expecting a reply on Twitter any time soon you might as well forget it. The producer concluded his column by saying:

Instead of talking about what Smash Bros. will be like. I'm just going to say 'I'm making you wait for it!' and keep going along. I want to put my all into a full-on launch that really makes that wait worth it.

I'm excited for it, even if I know nothing so far about it.

10 years greatest game event!

bets: [peak year] [+], [1], [2], [3], [4]

just show us a trailer asap. that will last me until the next footage

Bet with ninjablade:

Ninjablade wins if the next 5 multiplat on the wii u are inferior to the 360 version.

I win if one of the 5 mulitplats are on par or superior on the Wii U.

Just a small teaser will suffice

I want to believe it will be worth it, but Namco working on the game still bothers me everytime I think about it...

They should release Mario Kart for next holiday season and release Smash sometime during 2014. That would keep the Wii U going nicely.

Put Geno in the roster. I don't care if Square Enix has a hissyfit, MAKE IT HAPPEN.

As long as its good as TTT2 and not as bad as SCV...I'll be fine (quality wise I mean).

Really odd that they outsource the franchise to Namco...I mean .....Namco ruined Star Fox with Star Fox Assault >.>.

Oh well Namco has been better at fighters anyways...

It's being made by the Tekken team, so I wouldn't worry.

No.

New Super Mario 3D game in 2013 , 2014 Smash and 2015 Mario Kart imo ;o

Mario Kart is a better system seller than 3D Mario though.  Plus they just released a 2D Mario.  2015 would be way too long to hold out on MK.  How about holiday 13 - 3D Mario, spring 14 - Smash, holiday 14 - Mario Kart.  The people that are going to buy Smash will buy it whenever.  MK and the Wii U would benefit more with a holiday launch.

Do we know really how this Wii U/3DS thing will work? Is it an exact clone of how PSASBR works or is the 3DS version unique?

I'm really hoping this game can match the scope of brawl with the quality of melee. I wonder how final smashes will be upgraded.
