Forums - Sales Discussion - 3rd Party games don't sell on the Vita

Tagged games:

Only 1 of the top 4 selling Vita games is made by a company other than Sony, Fifa Soccer. Furthermore, only three other 3rd party games fill the next six spots. So in total, only four 3rd party Vita games have sold over 200,000 copies.

Contrast that to the 3DS. Even if you double the 200,00 copies to 400,000 copies to compensate for the 3DS's being out for twice as long, you still have a dozen 3rd party games with that many sales: Monster Hunter 3G, Kingdom Hearts 3D, Dragon Quest Monsters 3D, Super Street Fighter 4 3D, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Lego Star Wars 3, RE: Revelations, Professor Layton 5, Sonic Generations, Rayman 3D, Inazuma Eleven Go, Ridge Racer 3D, and Super Monkey Ball 3D.

So my question is, why do 3rd parties even bother with Sony systems? It's obvious that if they want to sell games, they have to do it on Nintendo platforms.

So you were able to extrapolate poor 3rd part vita game sales to poor third party for the entire Sony line? Awesome.

If you want, I could also talk about how Just Dance 4 is selling better on the Wii, a dying system, then the thriving PS3.

People say "nintendo fans don't buy third party games" but it is a totally different ball game in the handheld market. That is why developers were migrating to ds and not localizing games on psp. It is both cheaper and safer on nintendo handhelds. Tales of abyss has had to be reprinted several times in europe.

Also if you actually compare games by the same developers/publishers you'll see games still sell better on nintendo. At least last I checked the charts. Dead or alive had sold more then sigma plus. Blazblue had sold more on 3ds. Even metal gear. As you pointed out ssfiv outsold umvc3 and sf x t COMBINED! But like I said that was the last time I checked.

I wonder what the problem is.

One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D

Vita doesn't even sell on Vita.

I imagine that Persona 4 will solidify itself among the top after this week.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

P4G is Atlus' most preordered exclusive game in history.

Its not that third parties sell the vita. There are no first parties that are compelling enough to sell the Vita. Sony need to back away from the handheld market.

One game from a publisher best known for niche games is fairly popular?!?!? Scratch what I said, the 3DS is domed!

Not sure if this thread is serious in demonstrating surprise that more games shift 200k to a 20m user base than to a 3m user base...
