Forums - Nintendo - Assassin’s Creed 3 on Wii U is missing some graphical features, didn’t have enough time to properly port

Assassin’s Creed 3 was one of the first games confirmed for the Wii U, and what we’ve see so far has been excellent. However, according to Assassin’s Creed 3 game designer Steven Masters, the Wii U version will be missing some technical features that are available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Because the developer didn’t have enough time to properly port Assassin’s Creed 3 Wii U to Nintendo’s new console, the game won’t include some of the lighting and particle effects present in other versions. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard a Wii U game missing key features due to development time constraints: Madden NFL 13 on the Wii U won’t feature the new physics engine nor some of the online game modes.

Assassin’s Creed 3 was playable at GamesCom both on the PS3 and Wii U, and those who played both versions reportedly saw clear advantages on the PS3 version. However, Masters says that the Wii U version is “99% identical” to the other consoles. We’ve previously heard hints that the game would support 1080p on the Wii U, but that’s now looking unlikely. For more on the visuals in Assassin’s Creed 3, check out the latest screenshots from the game.

Assassin’s Creed 3 is one of five Ubisoft Wii U launch titles.

Ubisoft, I expected better than this.

I'm expecting them to be able to make up for it with things like less compression and possibly higher resolution.

it was demonstrating higher resolution at E3 and higher frame rate, unless they are going to go back and downgrade it to look like the PS3 and 360. The way I'm reading this is that they don't want it to be that much different than 360 and PS3 versions. At least, thats how it sounds.

Honestly, I don't see why they just can't keep working on it after the release and patch everthing else in. This isn't the Wii. They can upgrade and patch everything.

Heck, they can just delay and finish working on it properly. They are pratically announcing that this is going to be a half assed port.

..

what was that you said lilbroex, "All 3rd parties that have confirmed resolutions have stated that they will be at 1080p and the word from developers themsleves is that Arkham City and Assasins Creed will be 1080p at 60 fps."

It was and still is.

That statement is a guess by the person who wrote the article. Not a dev confirmation.

Regardless of whether or not the game will have all of the lighting and particles effects, it was still running at a higher resolution and frame rate at E3. So it should still be 1080p at 60 FPS unless they are going to downgrade it before release.

This sounds odd to me ...

If Ubisoft was managing their codebase correctly they should be able to add new features across all versions while still implementing custom features (or porting the code) for each console. Being able to complete the port but not having time to implement the new features sounds to me like the codebase is being mismanaged.

It is actually a fairly common problem, but it always seems unusual when you hear about it from a large, well known company where the business model seems so dependent on cross platform development.

still in development for wii u (port in progress). now's not the time to worry until launch. I played the demo at E3 and it looked fine to me. He said he was playing the naval ship level. I could not say anything about that 'cause I didn't see it at E3.

Even if the differences aren't great, this rubs me the wrong way and pushes me away from wanting to purchase it. I probably won't, anymore.

And we're headed for dissapointment... >.>

@HappySqurriel: I bet their excuse for that would be that the WiiU architecture is new to them...

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

Um the screenshot link has an O for the counter.....

Since when was does the Wii U have an O button.

They're all PS3 screenshots.
