Way More Universal Microtransactions are Coming to the PS3

Upcoming shooter Dust 514 won't just be the first PS3 game to link to an MMO on the PC. It'll also be the first to support a framework for the purchase of microtransactions on the PlayStation Network using a virtual currency.

Asked by Develop whether developers CCP would be using their own form of in-game currency on the PlayStation 3, Hilmar Pétursson says "Yes and [Sony hasn't] done anything like this before. We're having many meetings with them to ensure they have solid policies on virtual currency. Given the amount of back and forth there, we can definitely see us breaking new ground."

The things that are being nutted out in meetings include revenue splitting and what happens when the PS3 goes quietly into the night.

If/when it all comes together, though, there'll be a means on the PlayStation 3 of publishers offering microtransactions using their own forms of currency. Meaning you'll see a lot more free-to-play games coming along.

This isn't true....

Dust 514 is not the first game to have microtransactions nor is it the first PS3 MMO game to be cross platform with the PC.

--First of all HOME has had Microtranactions for years.

--FREE REALMS (launched on PS3 in 2011) is an MMORPG that has Microtransactions and is Cross platform with the PC.

--UNCHARTED WATERS (Japanese MMO) is also an MMORPG that's been on the PS3 since 2009....it's also cross platform with the PC.

Kotaku lies....

like usual.

i think you are misreading the Kotaku post and the Thread Title from Pezus... Kotaku says it's the first with Microtransactions using virtual currency.. aka use money to buy Dust 514 Points/dollars/pies whatever they are gonna call it.. that Pezus is making the mistake using the thread title "Microtransactions coming to the PS3" isn't kotaku's fault...

ot: sucks why can't I use my normal cc to buy stuff... instead of buying Dust 514 Points/dollars/pies whatever they are gonna call it and end up with 100 points in my virtual dust 514 wallet which I will never use...

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Is this implying Dust 514 will be a F2P title?

I went back to reread, and you're right.

Thank you for the correction, NiKKoM.

Yarp that's my thoughts.

If this is free-to-play after the initial purchase I might actually look into it now.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Yay! That which is ruining PC gaming is coming to ruin console gaming. What a wonderful time to be a gamer!

Well I dont care TBH. I have no idea, how people can even be excited for this trailer. I know that it has a strong connection with EVE, but lets be honest, player count wise, that game is NOT a juggernaut. And Dust looks like one generic shooter... I mean even MAG had more personality then this game.

I doubt that this one will have a big impact. Lets be honest the only way to get some real fun out of it, is to play both games non-stop... and that is just waaaay to time consuming. Add in microtransaction with own currency, and you have bestcasescenarionichetitle written all over it

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

It is free to play, you just need initial purchase for the game., but that is not all. CCP always release new expansions for free in EVE Online, so they'll most likely follow suit in Dust 514.
