Forums - Nintendo Discussion - 3DS, the new Polaroid

Nintendo started a cultural initiative in Spain, involving their latest handheld, by approaching well known photographers with the 3DS. First to jump in was Joan Fontcuberta who described 3D photography "a pioneering achievement since the Polaroid or digital technology". Others like Txema Salvans said "there's no doubt that photography is also a game" when he saw the editing features. All these artist came together to form "Dimensions", the first exhibition of professional photos taken with a console, it is currently shown in Arts Santa Mónica (Barcelona) until the 29th of May and Nintendo will help rotate to other cities soon.

How do you print them off? Does it just hook to your computer or am I stupid and you just send it through the internet?

I am sure you can save them to the SD card and distribute it like that (putting SD card into your computer if it has an SD slot, etc...).  I have no clue since I don't own a 3DS but I am sure SD is part of that solution.

Considering the resolution of the 3DS camera I am a bit surprised. Still can't believe Nintendo implemented such a low resolution camera in today's high technological advancements.

Doesn't the difference in megapixels on a small screen barely show that much difference.  On a small screen you can get decent resolution with barely any megapixels.

As you can see from the photos in the OP you can clearly see a difference. The photos are blurry and not as clear. The biggest problem is with lightening and contrast. It's good for simple use but if you really want to capture a 3D moment then you are better off buying another device.

Almost every cell phone these days has a better camera. I am also aware that te 3DS camera is the same in megapixels with the DS one. Cheap.

You can take them out of the SD card to the computer and print them as you like. But that doesnt make sense why would you want to print a 3d photo?...

This. I've yet to be able to take any pictures with the clarity of the above images.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

The resolution isn't the problem. But the sensors are crap. :/

Even in good light the pictures are only so-so.

But for AR the image quality is OK I guess.

Need something off Play-Asia? http://www.play-asia.com/

These guys are professionals, they can take into account the crappy sensor (hehehe). The thing is Polaroid's aren't known for their great qualities either. They where just an inexpensive (and fun when I tried them) way to obtain instant photos.

I think Fontcuberta means that the 3DS is an instant way to experience 3D photography since you are able to see the results in the glassless screen.
