Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Gametrailers Biggest E3 2010 Dissapointment: Zelda

i am as well disappointed with Zelda, but Kirby made up for it.

i am used to Zelda being groundbreaking, my expectations were too high.

might you expand upon grounbreaking?

1:1 controls and all that isn't ground breaking?

You need what more realistic graphics, is that what makes a game ground breaking?

Im sure even with those stupid motion controls that Ninty wants to force us to play with, Zelda is gonna end up a great game. The disappointment to me (besides the no classic pro support) was the that the demo wasn't in a real stage or dungeon but in a little hub and the trailer showed nothing really.

yea damn stupid motion controls.  How dare they make me swing my arm horizontally to make link do the same.  or diagnally.  And damnit i dont' want to have ot do a bow and arrow gesture to shoot a bow and arrow, or pretend i'm bowling in order to roll a bomb, or do a whipping...

go sit on your couch and twiddle your thumbs on your dual analog to aim at something and leave this thread.

Thats funny some gamer tryin to diss me bcuz we been playin every Zelda games with a classic controller and I dont want the experience to change.Trust me most of the Nintendo fans prefer gamecube controller over the wiimote and nunchuck.

and you tell me if the DS zelda games feels better with the stylus or they were just right back on the GB and GBA cuz you comment show that you're not really a Zelda fan to understand how skeptic alot of people are about this game.

so i'm not a true zelda fan because I don't mind moving forward and not content with sticking with the same controls forever.

man you guys  must love the ps3, i mean the controller is the same as on the ps1.  gotta love no change huh.

you right, thats the reason I bought a ps3 between the HD console bcuz I cant stand the xbox 360 controller. The same reason brawl still play best with a GC controller bcuz theres no need to change the controls when they're already perfect, and why some people are skeptic about Metroid other m when it would've been just less trouble with a GC controller option or classic pro. (btw Im ok with it but I can understand why the others arent)

I said you're a not a fan if you dont understand why alot of people feels that change might ruin their franchise when their never was a need to change something that we already were used to.

Nintendo made me a gamer so I'd be stupid to ever try to forget that                                             like so many people nowadays

The Top  Best Consoles Are SNES and PSX

Currently Playing: 1.Monster Hunter tri 2.MegaMan 10

Personally I wouldn’t describe Skyward Sword as a disappointment it just didn’t live up to the usual Zelda hype around a Zelda reveal. It does look like the Twilight Princess engine with a different coat of paint and the trailer wasn’t particularly exciting (not bad just ordinary). Also I don’t think it helped that we were expecting Zelda but there were a load of surprises too and they kind of outshined the Zelda reveal.

didn't really see the 1:1 controls you are talking about, but i don't really care about controls, since its the same game were playing whatever way we are controlling,   groundbreaking i mean't in atmosphere, scale, style , gameplay, soundtrack...ect

I live for the burn...and the sting of pleasure...
I live for the sword, the steel, and the gun...

- Wasteland - The Mission.

Why are people saying "No innovations" when the game uses freakin motion ! It's completely illogical.

We don't know how epic it's going to be because the trailer showed gameplay, and gameplay only. Is the 1:1 motion controls in a freaking Zelda not innovative enough for you? Also, sword lazers are back!

With that said, I'm dissapointed that the areas seemed so basic and empty, and that they never showed anything else than gameplay. But hopefully, now that the structure of the game has been revealed, we will see more of the setting, and perhaps richer enviroments in the next trailer.

I LOVE ICELAND!

You can't just change the qualifiers and expect us to buy that was your argument the whole time, not unless you admit you left them out by mistake, and you didn't do that.

Just because you've narrowly defined the term doesn't mean it's not groundbreaking.

My disappointment in Zelda this year lies simply in the fact Nintendo actually revealed very little of it. They've been promising it for so long and they revealed a very early graphics engine and near complete controls in a 10 minute demo that may not actually be part of the final game. The graphics look patchy to me (some parts and character models look amazing, other parts look bland) and despite the screwed up demo at the conference, every hands on I read was positive. Given Nintendo's track record with Zelda, I'm sure it will shape up to be a great game. I'm just not in any way convinced it's going to be a massive, innovative step forward in the Zelda series or games in general. And honestly, that's what I was hoping for. There simply wasn't enough on show to demonstrate or disprove that.

So yeah, in terms of Zelda's E3 showing I'd say it was a disappointment, but that's no guarantee the final product will be disappointing. Honestly, I remember feeling the same when Wind Waker was announced, and they eventually turned out a masterpiece and one of the freshest console Zelda games. It's too early to tell if Skyward Sword will similarly wow me as a final product, but as an E3 reveal it did disappoint. It's a case of such high expectations-Zelda undergoes scrutiny and pressure reserved only for the best gaming franchises, and there simply wasn't enough in this demo to meet or exceed those expectations and defy such pressure and scrutiny. Personally, there wasn't enough in this demo to suggest the final product will be poor or underwhelming.

Okay, that's a good reason. We were expecting something like, I don't know, a full blown preview of the game, and we largely got a proof of concept.

Although in practical terms, the latter is much better when looked at angles other than hype.

I been saying for a while now Zelda needs to be changed drasticly, in some way.

The old Zelda fans will rage and piss and moan but who cares, these are the same fans bitching about the recent Zeldas anyways.

If they make the same Zelda over and over its stale and if they change it then its no longer Zelda and people rage.

I say change it up. I want a Zelda II type change and to hell with the fanboys.

out of curiosity, what kind of "drastic change" do you recomend for this series?

OT: it figures doesnt it? its a zelda game. of course they were gonna try to find virtually every reason to not like the game. graphics were just their main choice. of course i have heard that same complaint *cough*wind waker*cough* so -1 for unoriginality.

amazing motion controls, cool art style, and new and interesting items that more than make up for anything that might have been disappointing IMO. i was only dissapointed in the onstage demo.

They should have shown a cutscene, or a more cinematic trailer... I don't know what they were thinking.

I think people are underestimating this point.

Nintendo chose to go with a gameplay demo specifically with the intent of demoing the controls.  That's great for anyone who went hands-on but there are many people (i.e. the entire internetz) who didn't have that opportunity.  The only other thing people have to go on is the look of the game and lets say that the look has, at the least, raised some eyebrows.

Therefore most people are left to form impressions based on a hands-on demo that they didn't go hands-on with  and a questionable (according to some) artstyle.  Without a trailer or at least more details of the story, some other areas in the game, characters etc. we are left with no sense or feel for what the new Zelda is going to be like.

I have faith that it will still be an incredible game but I can understand why people would say the E3 showing was disappointing.

Edit: I didn't see Asriel's post until after I typed mine, but pretty much what he said.
