I think people are underestimating this point. 

Nintendo chose to go with a gameplay demo specifically with the intent of demoing the controls.  That's great for anyone who went hands-on but there are many people (i.e. the entire internetz) who didn't have that opportunity.  The only other thing people have to go on is the look of the game and lets say that the look has, at the least, raised some eyebrows.

Therefore most people are left to form impressions based on a hands-on demo that they didn't go hands-on with  and a questionable (according to some) artstyle.  Without a trailer or at least more details of the story, some other areas in the game, characters etc. we are left with no sense or feel for what the new Zelda is going to be like.

I have faith that it will still be an incredible game but I can understand why people would say the E3 showing was disappointing.
