I take it back. refuse to call this a mix between an RPG and open world action, there is more interweaving choice than people give the game credit for. I have near 1000 hours in this game, three full playthroughs and some partial stuff playthroughs so I think I can confidently say I know this game as well as any critic. Even just dealing with the Crones, the trees spirit and how that effects the Barons quest which was already full of choices is more RPG than Fallout 4 . It also has many ways to build out Geralt, dialogue choices and sometimes choices that have game wide effects like recruiting people for the Kear Morhan fight. There's more RPG here than I found in Cyberpunk 2077 or BGS's last attempt with Fallout 4. It has a right to be called RPG and not some half genre. The difference is a lot of it can be ignored on easier difficulties, building, gear, needing upgrades to bypass combat at times and also, you don't get to notice how different things are until you play it at least twice and by the third and fourth playthrough it's really clear how much choice there is, it's just expertly hidden. The game has like 50 endings or something silly even if there are only three main endings and those are only effected by the last ten to fifteen hours of play but the world state and side characters getany ending and combinations of endings depending on what you did in the game but more so the effects of choices show sometimes instantly and sometimes a 50 hours later.

There are so many little details based on choice like finding the woman tied to the rock who was a traitor in Skelige. It's too detailed to not be an RPG but it must be played on Death March and that's the thing. I know the game wouldn't have sold as well but this game would benifet from keeping the too highest difficulties only and calling them Normal and Hard. Frankly I think there should be a higher difficulty than Death March for Vetrans cause I tend to build too well now around adrenaline and sign buffing and I can use the signs too well while mostly relying on keeping Quen always proc'd while I spit out signs.
