That's why I don't believe that "strong start" statement that began on Twitter when they posted out of stock images from retailers. Those retailers stock low amounts of "physical" copies to begin with. So shipments were probably quite low as SE knew going into this week what pre-orders looked like.

FF7 remake definitely bombed on Switch 2. The only thing that will give it some possible legs might be the budget pricing. Let's see how that goes. Rebirth is likely going to suffer the same fate but maybe they will add in a god mode for that title too to make it easier for the Switch buyers to get into it.

The term “bombed” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. We’re talking about a port of a 6 year old game that goes for around $10-20 on PS4, PS5, and PC. It has already sold well over 1mil in JP alone at this point, and still debuts as the strongest third-party NS2 launch to date.

There’s also the additional note that even still FF7I debuted better on NS2 than PS4/PS5 (though this is with the added caveat that (i) FF7I was selling for the equivalent of $70USD back in 2021 versus $40USD in 2026, and (ii) Intergrade is a free update for PS5 owners who already owned Remake).

All-in-all, these are nothing short of solid. Nothing fantastic but also nothing to be upset with. Big question now is how the legs of this game will hold up— I’m thinking this is likely where we’ll see the game really shine.

I wouldn't use this comparison as FF7 Intergrade didn't launch on PS4 and launched on PS5 when its usebase was like 600k alongside all the free upgrade stuff

None the less it's not terrible sales for a late port but certainly if the legs don't show then you're left with a reality that SE has to keep exploring how to bring FF back to prominence. At this rate FFVII Part 3 could genuinely make a loss lol.

I'm enjoying the trilogy but I dare say I would of preferred them condense VII into 2 parts only and moved on to FFXVIII sooner rather than later
