Those retailers stock low amounts of "physical" copies to begin with. So shipments were probably quite low as SE knew going into this week what pre-orders looked like. |
The term “bombed” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. We’re talking about a port of a 6 year old game that goes for around $10-20 on PS4, PS5, and PC. It has already sold well over 1mil in JP alone at this point, and still debuts as the strongest third-party NS2 launch to date.
There’s also the additional note that even still FF7I debuted better on NS2 than PS4/PS5 (though this is with the added caveat that (i) FF7I was selling for the equivalent of $70USD back in 2021 versus $40USD in 2026, and (ii) Intergrade is a free update for PS5 owners who already owned Remake).
All-in-all, these are nothing short of solid. Nothing fantastic but also nothing to be upset with. Big question now is how the legs of this game will hold up— I’m thinking this is likely where we’ll see the game really shine.
