I shouldn't kid, these were all fairly disastrous events that, aside from the deaths of those involved, potentially damaged Western civilization's drive for space exploration because we value human life so deeply (or at least, used to). So, quite scarring to the psyche of those invested, and/or following.

That's fucking creepily strange, I specifically remember a space shuttle disaster in 1997. I remember Colombia very well and it's not that, everyone was making that joke NASA stands for Need Another Seven Astronauts and I was well into secondary school. Wtf am I remembering cause I wasn't around for the 1986 one. This is so engrained into my memory it's unsettling that it didn't happen.
