I'm comparing it to death Stranding. Both are essentially the same plot on the surface, extinction level event set in paranormal fantasy worlds they even have the same themes and anime inspired characters just a different coat of paint.
Also there is a need to explain that stuff and it's done quite well in FF games with aether and life energy. If there was no need to explain it Mako could be the planets cum but they do explain Mako and magic in the FF games. Even FF16 which is heavily based on the idea that you have played FF before to get it and know what the what and who the eikons are, to yhe point it almost expects it of you yet it has extensive amounts of lore as a mechanic you can pull up at any time for what's happening on screen at any one moment should you need explanation.
What your saying is Toilken or George R.R.Martin should be able to get away with Deus ex machina or logical inconsistencies cause of the genre over someone doing a drama, no. In fact zi'd argue they have to go to greater lengths to explain stuff and both do exactly that and avoid deus ex machina the most out of all genres cause it would be so easily fallen into by mistake.
