Tenchu was great! Had the first one on PS1 and Wrath of Heaven on PS2 and loved them both. Very unique games in how they played. Another brutal Ninja game that I felt was underrated and no one talks about is Ninja Shadow of Darkness, this game kicked my ass and I enjoyed every second of it. I had a thing for Mythologies Sub-Zero too. It goes without saying all of those had more differences than similarities and weren't really in the same genre, let alone sub-genre. Shinobi-PS2 was very basic but fun, challenging, and gloomy in a good way. It wasn't in the same league to me as Revenge of Shinobi, Shadow Dancer, and Shinobi 3 on the MegaDrive. Myself and my brother played DMC2 soon after Shinobi-PS2 and disappointingly said "DMC has fallen so low, Capcom is shamelessly copying Shinobi's monster tanks, except the game is so much worse" lol. It also got a sequel named "Nightshade" which I didn't play. Nightshade's protagonist was a hot af no-nonsense kunoichi. I'd let her slay me... and maybe step on me :) |
Were the Techu games as difficult as I remember or was it just that I was a child? I wouldn't mind another Tenchu game now that it seems we're getting all those old games coming back from the dead. Perhaps too much all at once and they'll cannibalise each other and then studios will say, we'll that didn't work and never try again. We must support them as fans of the genre even if they release a bit underwhelmingly.
Funny ai never heard of these games but I went straight from a hand me down NES to a PS1, the only Mega Drive was counties away at a distant cousins house to play once ever two or three years and fucked if I can remember what was played but I don't remember the graphics being that good that I'd feel attracted to characters, lol but to each there own. Someday VR will be good enough you may get your wish, keep your health in order so you can be spry for that happy day.
