The map-drawing is more of a gimmick and in newer Etrian games you could turn on a lot of automap features. And other similar games with maps worked on Switch already, like Labyrinth of Refrain.

I'm actually curious if you even play Etrian games. Because what you just said is every kind of wrong possible. Like someone that read an article once about the games and that's it.

The automap feature lacks so many of the features you need to play the game.  Treasures, secrets, monster path, type of titles.  Not to mention putting notes on specific tiles. The quests would be nearly impossible without constantly wasting time retracing your steps.

It's easy to add the features to make map drawing unneeded. Still, that is more true for a sequel, a port of sort would you have painting maps in some sort. This could be a dilemma. Placing notes and markers on the map though can work without a stylus (in difference to drawing borders), that can be done with sticks. Breath of the Wild does that on it's map. So I think you have to advance the automapping and add in plaing markers via stick to make a port of Etrian work, but overall the map drawing never was the big thing that got me into the game, so I would not mind if there was less of it.
