The guys are "geek"... that a specialized site about gamers... it's not for common people.
The iOS is customizable too, you can change a lot of things...and I prefer closed OS then open.
Windows > OSX >>>>>>> Linux
Nokia forces proprietary cables and adaptors for you too... every mobile phone do that... that's not have nothing to do about the OS... that's a hardware problem.
