question, does ndp not track games sold in a bundle..

Because I do not see, NSMB, KFP, SST, or LIJ or Brain Training

the 2 ds bundles or the 3 360 bundled games.

No they don't include games which come with a console/handheld. The most famous example was with MGS4 when they stated that the game sold 750 k (their official software number) but is closer to 1 million if they counted the game in the console bundle.

Thats what i figured. Kinda silly not to count the DS bundles.... Considering people are pay for the game.  The DS + NSMB is like 160 and the bundle is 150... People are paying 25 bucks for a game that is not counted. Same with MGS4, that bundle cost more (I bought it lol).... now with WiiSports, Kung Fu, S tennis, and Lego I agree they should not be counted... unless the bundle cost more because of them. WiiSports is kinda up in air more than the other 3.... because the WiiSportless Japanese Wii is cheaper.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Are there any special changes to RB2 SE equipment I should know about before getting the Wi bargain?

Not as far as I know, which is part of why I jumped in a few weeks back. As an added bonus, the instruments supposedly work with Guitar Hero: World Tour as well now, except for the drums (although double-check on that, because I've only heard that once).

Hey guys, why the big...

L;JGHKJAGHLKJAGKAJLGHDKAJGHFJKAFGJ 2 MILLION?

RUN FOR THE HILLS PLAYSTATION FANS! RUN FOR THOSE MOUNTAINS!

NINTENDO'S COMING! NINTENDO'S COMING!

Hehe karma is a bitch huh Dinomax?

I remember thinking the same thing when PS1 and PS2 began hitting their strides. Dance Dance Revolution, the original Guitar Hero, Eye Toy, Singstar, proliferation of sports and thousands of disc based movie games that were all of questionable quality...thats how PS1 and PS2 got so big. Its not like any single Playstation game has been purchased new more than 20m times, despite 105m PS1s shipped and ~138m (estimated through Dec) PS2s shipped. That stuff was the backbone of PS1 and PS2. There is a reason why no no Playstation game has ever topped 20m units after all...for all the talk of the variety of games the supposedly hardcore gamers play the vast majority just hop on the latest new genre and buy most of their games in two-three genres. Back in the day, NES had roughly as many games sell 5m+, 10m+ copies as PS2 did so its not like there has been growth in the traditional audience, only the casual audience with more diversified tastes. Sony had a decade to try to find a product that could sell to 20 or 30 or 40 million of these new customers but they never found it. Nintendo has. Wii Fit, Wii Play, Wii Sports, Mario Kart with simpler controls, Wii Music.

Hate to break it to you, but the louder the complainer the smaller the minority is in taste preferences when it comes to gaming.

lol Dinomax got told.

Jacob, with 2 million in a single month, will we FINALLY see 3rd parties taking this system more seriously?...By that, I mean balancing the shovelware/high quality games ratio FAR better.

What do you think?

I figure Wii will have 3,000 games or so. For pretty much anyone, no matter their taste, you have to figure 2700 will be horseshit - games the person would never even consider buying. 300 will be good out of the 3000, 100 great out of the 300 good, probably 35 stellar /incredible/revolutionary out of the 100 to any given customer. The average tie ratio is going to somewhere between 5 and 8 for Wii owners at the end of the day, so having 35 stellar games, and 300 good games is more than enough selection.

There are like 400 Wii games now right? So using the same ratio, 360 horseshit, 40 good, 13 great out of the 40 good, and probably 5 stellar (Galaxy, Zack & Wiki, Wii Sports, Wii Fit, and Brawl I would argue, though sales trends would suggest GHIII is probably the most deserving 3rd party game on Wii) out of the 40 good games. The tie ratio worldwide is about 6.7 games for the average Wii owner right now, so it seems about right to me. It basically comes down to people picking up half the games that are great at the moment

I think thats about where Wii is today. For those people who buy 10 games a year, Wii Ware, backwards compatability, and the Virtual Console are an attempt to fill in the gaps until Wii gets to ~1000 games which will be the point where it has enough 'good' games to satisfy even the most picky gamer.

You can say what you want about Wii having shovelware, but something like the N64 had only 300 games, and 240 were still pretty crappy. So yeah, you tend to get higher quality on consoles with less games (maybe 20% of the games are good instead of 10%) but so much more is released on the systems with shovelware that the ratio becomes overwhelming. Second place systems I think tend to get the highest non crap: crap ratio because the crap goes on the biggest base, but you don't want to put your best stuff on the smallest base. I think thats why Microsoft always touts its lineup, as I could make a pretty solid argument that Genesis, N64, Xbox etc had less crappy software than the SNES, PS1, PS2 despite having less quality software too.

According to that link, if we compare the strongest month of each console so far between PS2 and Wii, Wii is already ahead of the PS2. It has 8 months vs 4 for the PS2.

Here's the comparison, with the strongest month during their Lifetime:

Jan: Wii 436k - PS2 490k
Feb: Wii 432k - PS2 530k
Mar: Wii 721k - PS2 500k
Apr: Wii 714k - PS2 330k
May: Wii 675k - PS2 490k
Jun: Wii 667k - PS2 690k
Jul: Wii 555k - PS2 440k
Aug: Wii 453k - PS2 450k
Sep: Wii 687k - PS2 540k
Oct: Wii 803k - PS2 500k
Nov Wii 2004k - PS2 1300k
Dec: Wii 1350k - PS2 2700k

So far PS2 has had a better Jan, Feb, Jun and Dec than the Wii. Though Wii could have a beastly December and surpass the 2700k the PS2 achieved.

January and February will be the toughest months for the Wii to surpass the PS2, simply because they are the months where supply is almost inexistant due to the holiday sellouts which include shipments from this months. February may be a given next year because of the upped production, but January won't happen.

As for June it will be easily achieved next year because of the increased production. Of course Wii will surpass its own and set more records next year with more production available.

Microsoft if you could get a console exclusive version of WoW, just imagine what that would do for your sales.
