Monster Hunter 3. The top selling third party game in Japanese home systems this generation.

I've noticed several people forgetting about that game.  It probably has something to do with the fact that it isn't out in all regions yet.

I've noticed both of you forgetting about FF XIII.

EPIC WIN POST

at the end of the day. Nintendo will bleed black and the small studios that continue to support the HD systems will bleed red.

Never mind the small studios (their going bankrupt on HD) the big studios are bleeding red on HD.    Only Ubisoft (home of the casualz) and Activision (GH/WoW) are in the black and they are relying heavily on the expanded market to do so.    I think Sega broke even having lost tons on their HD efforts but done well on Wii/DS.  Capcom has a good year too.

At the end of the day 3rd parties will either finally learn the lesson Nintendo is teaching or die in combat for the HD buck.

Lol. The truth is I don't know and reading some of the reasons others have thrown up they don't know either.
Some of you have made v.good points however.

Some blame the developers, some blame the hardware, some blame nintendo (in terms of it's success as a publisher).

I think all these play their part in it but it is far more complex than most people think.

I wholeheartedly agree that MS and Sony need 3rd party devs like a fish needs water.

Nintendo learnt from the GC that if you need to rely on anyone for success and make the real money in this industry you must rely on yourself.

Look at the SW sales list and take a good look at the publishers column.

My view on this (and this is no fact) is that most 3rd party developers have come to the conclusion that Nintendo don't need them like MS and Sony do. Nintendo are in a very strong position. They can call the shots and set the terms.
Is nintendo really worried about the lack of 3rd party support. Have they had time to notice they lack 3rd party support as counting all that cash must be taking up a lot of time.

MS and Sony are desperate for 3rd party support as they rely strongly on it for their bread and butter.
Maybe 3rd party teams can strike a better deal due to this desperation and have more control.

Yes they have Halo and GT (inhouse) but those games aint no Mario, not even close.
Even the IWs, Activisons, EA and (whoever publishes GTA) of this world cannot currently get close to the superpower that is the nintendo publishing house.

In many ways this is consolidation on Nintendos part. Get your own house in order then care about others.
Nintendo is in a posstion where do they don't really need anyone (apart from consumers).

I think (and this is my opinion) that Nintendo are happy the way things are for now.
The time to bring in massive 3rd party support will come next gen.

Lets look at some big, good quality 3rd party games that haven't released on Wii in 2009.

Batman Arkham Asylum

Borderlands

Modern Warfare 2

Assassin's Creed

Those are just a handful.

Why do third party publishers ignore the Wii even though its selling bucket loads ? Its crazy.

Wii games usually have long legs because there are a lot of potential impulse buyers than PS360 combined. And it wouldn't cost a lot to downgrade the graphics to put it on Wii would it ?

With decent advertising along with the PS360 versions, third party publishers can make a lot of money via the Wii.

Why do they ignore it ?

I dont know tbh. They just feel they can sell more on ps360 consoles. The "hardcore games" have not sold enough to please 3rd party devs. Sad really, when games like ea active sell more then mad world.

Hmmm, my thoughts...

1. Quality third party games like Batman and GTA won't do well on Wii.
2. By developing games for Wii they would kind of admit that they had bet on the wrong horse.
3. Some weeks ago our school went to a university and a programming student said that the Wiimote is very tricky to programme, furhtermore developers don't get much help by Nintendo in doing so (seriously: I don't know if this is true).
4. Porting a game to an inferior console would consume much time and money which (maybe) doesn't pay off because of Reason 1.

edit: I'll use this opportunity to ask something: How do I create a My Games (owned) list here on VGchrtz? I beg for a step for step guide for dummies )=

I wholeheartedly agree with your reason 4. Most devs make games for the HD twins + PC. It's very easy/cheap to port between those 3 relative to Wii. Wii gamers should be asking for more exclusives that take advantage of the hardware & interface imo.

For getting games on your collection:

Search for the game on the game database (top right search bar), be careful with spelling

Click on game/version.

Scroll down a little and on the left hand side you'll have the option to add to your collection for owned.

I am neither agreeing with you nor disagreeing. It just happens to be a coinsidence because you mentioned Sega and Capcom and those threads showed up today:

Sega : http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=96908&page=9#8

Capcom: http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=97121&page=3#2

Time will tell but I think noone is doomed infact I think that the videogames industry showed its strength despite financial crisis.
