Lol. The truth is I don't know and reading some of the reasons others have thrown up they don't know either.
Some of you have made v.good points however.

Some blame the developers, some blame the hardware, some blame nintendo (in terms of it's success as a publisher).

I think all these play their part in it but it is far more complex than most people think.

I wholeheartedly agree that MS and Sony need 3rd party devs like a fish needs water.

Nintendo learnt from the GC that if you need to rely on anyone for success and make the real money in this industry you must rely on yourself.

Look at the SW sales list and take a good look at the publishers column.

My view on this (and this is no fact) is that most 3rd party developers have come to the conclusion that Nintendo don't need them like MS and Sony do. Nintendo are in a very strong position. They can call the shots and set the terms.
Is nintendo really worried about the lack of 3rd party support. Have they had time to notice they lack 3rd party support as counting all that cash must be taking up a lot of time.

MS and Sony are desperate for 3rd party support as they rely strongly on it for their bread and butter.
Maybe 3rd party teams can strike a better deal due to this desperation and have more control.

Yes they have Halo and GT (inhouse) but those games aint no Mario, not even close.
Even the IWs, Activisons, EA and (whoever publishes GTA) of this world cannot currently get close to the superpower that is the nintendo publishing house.

In many ways this is consolidation on Nintendos part. Get your own house in order then care about others.
Nintendo is in a posstion where do they don't really need anyone (apart from consumers).

I think (and this is my opinion) that Nintendo are happy the way things are for now.
The time to bring in massive 3rd party support will come next gen.
