Forums - Sales Discussion - Why aren't PS3 owners more dedicated to their system's amazing games?????

I think what he's saying is that the PS3's user base is almost all hardcore gamers so why don't they all buy more of the core games that are released. There are no 199 PS3 directed at more casual players so PS3 exclusives should be 5mil or close to it. Wii and 360 both have alot of 5mil+ exclusive core games but Ps3 has none. (Counting games like Zelda and SSB for wii)

Thats just dumb considering most big sellers are big because of the casuals... yes even Halo 3. The ones who bought one because they got sucked up in the hype? How about the ones that havent even played the campaign and just played the multiplayer once in a while?

NA is going to change overtime, if ever, but its likely that xbox will always have the edge in software.

but since PS3 dropped in price, a lot of my friends already started changing to PS3s and some friends who were xbox exclusive lovers already started to consider buying PS3s and start on those exclusives.

obviously, i can't deny xbox's success as they do have some great line-up of games! and i agree, some just buy ps3s because they just use it for blu-ray and other stuff, but hey, we never for sure unless we have data about it! =]

one thing i know is, sony is going to be fine with this generation, even if they do end up in 3rd place. (and yes i do believe it is likely. but quality is quality, and sony has done a good job regaining some momentum even though they did make some mistakes early on.)

I think PS3 owners buy what they like/want just like 360 owners, as shown by the sales of titles like Assassin's Creed, Modern Warfare etc. in relation to the install base.

The simple fact is that, by luck, design or a bit of both the 360 is home to a couple of franchises that a way above percentage of their install base will buy no matter what - Halo and Gears, and more recently CoD (although PS3 shows similar dedication in relation to install base for that one).

Similarly, it is very likely that GT5 on PS3 will shift huge volumes too.

In the end, there just isn't the size of audience for inFamous as Halo and that's that.

Obviously, the 360 has the benefit of a skew in sales in US/UK due to install base, which makes it easier to consider certain types of title on the platform and be sure of strong sales, vs PS3 whose install base is spread more evenly over different regions, etc. which increases the odds of higher differentiation of interest and commitment to certain genres/titles.

So of course, if you love Uncharted 2, look at its production values you'd hope for Gears level sales, and perhaps if PS3 were more dominant in US/UK it would see closer to that, but that doesn't mean those who have a PS3 don't invest in the system - I think quite the opposite, and would note that quite often in last 12 months many quality games like Batman have sold more on PS3 in ratio to install base than 360.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Well I see the OP really just wants every PS3 owner to buy U@ so that it's sales can match it's reviews. Unfortunately that's not how it works. Also as already stated the 360 sells software like no other console. I hear the Nintendo fans coming to tell me how every game with Wii in the title has sold boatloads, but it's mainly those titles that sell on the Wii. The 360 sells well in many different genres but only ever gets credit for FPS games. Probably because of Halo...

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

The current tie-ratios by console through September 2009
(Note: This is only for NA. Source: NPD)
Xbox 360 8.8 Units per system
PS3 6.8 Units per system
Wii 6.5 Units per system

If you are going to compare software sales by system, you shouldn't cherry pick individual titles but should use overall sales. Also note the 360 has been on the market for a year longer than the PS3/Wii.

Tha really tells you something... Ps3 is only 2 games per console behing 360 in its home territory when 360 games always sell better multiplat AND 360 has Halo 3... thats outstanding. Ps3 probablly makes that up WW... maybe even beats out the 360 considering I bet Japan heavily favors Ps3

That's 2 games per console sold AND 8.8 * 9 million consoles behind. that's roughly 100,000,000 less software unit sales. Assuming games sell at an average of $40, that's $4 Billion. Yes, that does really tell you something.

Now onto inFAMOUS...it's the same situation as U2, except MUCH worse. inFAMOUS is probably the 3rd best game i have EVER played (only Uncharted 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4 are above it)

Man, I don't know what to say here. I'm so, so sorry. I don't know what'd I know in your situation.

I know people just have a 360 for Halo and rarely buy any other game. This is because the 360 was cheap to buy. The PS3 however was expensive so only the hardcore gamers bought it. They placed more faith in quality of exclusive content on PS3. When a core exculsive game is released a majority should buy it since the demographic for Ps3 is more inclinded toward them. Zelda TP sold big numbers to core gamers and when zelda Wii is released it will be 5mil+ again. caual gamers don't buy zelda. Casuals only play SSBB that other core gamers have bought they don't buy it themselves(or buy it used which dosn't count in these disscusions).

And yet you completely ignore Japan and Europe two territories Ps3 consistantly outsellfs 360... so again... it says a lot about the ps3.
