Forums - Sony Discussion - Game Set And Match Sony?

reask said:

After that Conference I certainly think so.
I mean Sony just completely turned the tables in one fell swoop.
Even if MS drop the elite to 250 Euro which would cripple them.
The PS3 is still better value with BR and wi fi alone.

Was this planned 12 months ago by Sony?
If it was it was the best turnaround I have seen in a long time.

Your thoughts would be interesting.

The slim isn't even out yet so I'm not sure how it can be the best turnaround lol.  I think Sony has finally come back and won a game again, but the match is far from over with the 360 still up by a couple sets...if you want to stick with the tennis analogies. Should be an interesting holiday season to say the least.  I just hope that there won't be excuses if the 360 still manages to top it in sales because of any possible Slim shortages.  Wait....that's an excuse lol.

If you really think Sony can sell a PS3 with all it's hardware for $300 and MS can't sell a 360 Elite for $200 or an Arcade for $150, you're delusional. All MS would have to do is a redesign of their own and finish up their 45nm process for the GPU/CPU.

However MS won't do this because they want to wait until 2010 and include Natal bundled with every 360 and then cut prices to $150/200. Next year Sony won't have a choice but to either take another $100 loss per console sold with motion controls, or raise the price.... They definitely won't be able to cut the price again for about another 2 years.

Fair point there alright.

I just think this will put the wind behind PS3.

I think Sony have a similar periphial to MS so I am not so sure.

I think sony deserves it after so much shit they got from media. PS3 80Gb is almost sold out everywhere around where i live in matter of one day.(there were still few 160 GBs left)

the guy said they sold 10 PS3s in 3 hours.(and not a single 360 or wii)

i hope it's a WW thing and not just in my area

Well, that's awesome, I hope it is aswell :P

A wierd thing though. Gamestop here in Sweden, at least where I live has NOT lowered the price of the current PS3 models (phat).
I hope that it's only that store though. I asked them why it hasn't and he said that they hadn't gotten any notification about it. Only that the slim would release september.
That were yesterday though, but still one day after it should have been lowered.

So it's still around 4 500 SWE KR here, which is around $629 :O

edit: Slim will be around 3 500 SWE KR, which is around $490

no idea what you mean here reask

UK... biggest market in europe

PS3 slim £249.99

Elite 229.99
Arcade 129.99

The PS3 is still the most expensive console in the US and UK...

I hear what you are saying Koweniciki but just think about it for a minute.

Guy walks in to store and asks sales person for his options.

PS3  with 120 gig hd + BR+ WIFI+free online 299

Elite + 120 hd+no BR+no WIFI+no free online I mean do the maths.

You know I am a 360 owner and a pleased one at that but IMO folks these days do there homework before they buy into something.

I will put it to you another way.

Monday morning having done the maths 360 would have been my choice.

Wendsday having done the maths PS3 would have been my choice.

Thats just my take on it anyway.

It was only a matter of time, this IS Sony, did everyone forget the PS1 and PS2??

I doubt sony had millions and millions of slims ready to go. The initial supply will probably be fairly small:

a) they probably started manufacturing recently and pushed this out as quick as they could.

b) want to sell off existing stock of fats instead of taking them back and eating them.

Sony sent PS3 slim to the door of some major media in US, Europe, and Japan minutes/hours after it was announced.

Sony must have been stocking PS3 slim for quite awhlle now.

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

If you remember there were leaked manufactoring pics. They are months old now and then Sony significantly raised production about a month.

I don't think it is an amazing turnaround. Like many I never discounted Sony and knew they had a few aces to play that others couldn't match. There is no middle ground with too many people - its all doom and gloom just because a company has a patient strategy.
