wow I expect big ps3 sales from whats left of the old models

Congratulations to the PS3. I will still wait till $100 more on the price cutting(2 years maybe). Though like others have said. We should wait for about a month to see the long term effects of the price cut. I'm sure it will increase the overall sales though.

I just checked Gamestop.com and they have limited even the current 80 gigs to 2 per household.

Thay have also slashed the prices of every PS3 they have available online and PS3 price cut takes up the front page of their website.

Playstation fever is back. I love it.

What matters more than sales is that this new version is sold at a profit. If so, Sony... might still not make their money back, but at least they can gain some now.

This price cut will be bigger than the last price cut. The last price cut brought the price from a SUPERMEGAEXPENSIVE $499 to a supermegaexpensive $399. To the casual consumers' eyes, the PS3 seemed like a rip off like most other over-priced Sony products. Now it is on par with its competitions' prices, and should seem like way more value for the money now.

It's dangerous to go by online charts such as amazon. I just bought Madden 2010 and The Bigs 2 on UK amazon and the charts were nothing to go by (didn't tie with anything we see on this site). However, the PS3 slim was 4th and the Wii 5th, hence making the PS3 the top selling console. Didn't see where the "older" PS3s were.

BTW, I'm thinking of giving my PS3 to a friend (a gift for b-day) and getting me a shiny new PS3 Slim. Does this make sense? What's the plus side of getting a slim (what I like is its smaller and its lower power consumption and fan noise, which never bothered me tbh)?

I wonder how many units of the Slim Amazon and Gamestop have.

Although the news of it being hard to find should help the PS3's image. Since places like Amazon are saying that due to high demand for the Slim they had to limit how many a houslhold could buy.
