Hell DotNW sold more on Wii then ToV on 360 which had higher budget and was mothership.

We're not talking a huge difference, it's 0.32 million (ToV) versus 0.37 million (ToS2).

If anything that reflects poorly on ToS2 as it had a 1+ million fanbase from the original game to tap into while Vesperia was basically a new IP within the Tales franchise.

More like Tales of series has 1 million+ fanbase to tap into. I dont think that Vesperia new IP thing really works. Im not saying DotNW sold amazing but its been on record the game was low budget and rushed and it still sold good enough for a spin-off/sequel.

I'm saying that the budget doesn't matter.  Tales of games don't have an art-style that relies on expensive CGI and the like.

I'm also saying that your statement of "mothership" is immaterial as "Tales of" doesn't have a strong franchise name.  A strong franchise name is like Final Fantasy where the mere words on the box are enough to move software.  Tales doesn't have that however Tales of Symphonia 2 had the benefit of being a sequel:  an existing fanbase.

Essentially, I'm saying that being a direct sequel to a reasonably successful RPG with minor brand name is a better position than being a mid-high budget game with a minor brand name.  A sequel has immediate exposure whereas the virtue of being mid-high budget does not.

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

Any way you look at it, Tales of Symphonia DotNW was a much more successful game than Tales of Vesperia.

Sales - Development/Promotion = Profit

Both were excellent games, but Vesperia was disappointing saleswise. Maybe it will sell well on its PS3 version in Japan.

Nope. Sorry Im just gonna have to disagree. I know what youre trying to say about Sypmphonia being the recognizable name but I dont buy it. Tales of is Tales of. The series has 1 million fanbase not just Symphonia.

Tales of does not have a 1 million fanbase. If that would actually be true, then they would have actually bought Abyss and Vesperia in America.

So far, we've seen this year the releases of Takt of Magic, Kizuna, Arc Rise Fantasia, Muramasa, and Fragile for Wii.  Technically, not all of them are RPGs, but they were nonetheless niche titles at best.  Now that the year's almost over, what else is in store for Wii RPGs?  Let's take a look.

Dragon Quest X--There are people doubting already that this title will ever come to Wii.  But I don't think it's going to just jump ship just because these abovementioned titles weren't particularly huge sellers.  It'll still be a hit either way.

Tales of Graces--This should be a seller.

Monster Hunter 3--Technically not an RPG, but a very popular Japanese franchise.

Monado--Monolith Soft's newest production for Nintendo is an RPG.  How will it do?  Who knows.

Valhalla Knights Elder Saga--Unsure about how this will do.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles The Crystal Bearers--This should be successful.

Kingdom Hearts 3--Come on, you know it's gonna happen!

FIXED!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Yea will tell WoW that because Im not the person who originally said it. If "Symphonia" has a 1 million fanbase then so does Tales Of right? You cant say Symphonia has 1 million fanbase and use that as an excuse for bad sales of DotNW but meh sales for Vesperia. Those Symphonia sales are Tales of sales so Vesperia also had 1 millions users to feed off right?

Uh...ever thought the fanbase might be spread? I'm a ToS fan but don't own either.

You have a PS2 right? Why dont you have them.....

Im buying Abyss after I get Persona 4 or Eureka seveN Vol 1 for PS2

Well, I was talking to a friend earlier tonight about this.

He loved Symphonia. He really liked Symphonia 2, but he still realized that is was a badly made game. He just said that he liked it because it continued the story to one of his favorite games.

Who knows. Either way, my position hasn't changed on it.

ToS2 sold well for a spin-off, but badly for the sequel to the most popular game in the series. Tales of Vesperia sold well for a 360 JRPG, but terribly for a main Tales game.

I'd also add that it's likely that the fanbase is spread. Look at Final Fantasy. There is a general 3 groups I'd say that play FF.

1. The Old School - The people who grew on it, think the franchise is dying, and that FF 4 or 6 is their favorite
2. Cloud Fanboys - People that love Nomura, started with 7, and still love the series.
3. The Tactical Ivalice Fans - Those that thought FF12 was a step in the right direction, love the Tactics world.

I just made all of that up, and made massive generalizations. I think it's possibility to have your fanbase very split.
