*Sigh*
SONY shouldn't be selling anything at this point in time -- instead they need to focus on changing there business to be profitable.
1) In the games segment SONY needs to try to make PS3 profitable or at least minimize the losses to under PSP profits. If this means that later this year they cut the price by $50 instead of $100 so be it. (Im hoping the PSP Go is also priced at $250 so SONY can get a much larger profit margin than they get off PSP-3000's). Next generation SONY needs to follow the Wii's example of launching hardware at cost (id be aiming for a $399 PS4 / $199 PSP2)
2) SONY Electronics. SONY needs a budget brand of electronics to sell in order to expand outside its current high-end luxury brands. Also SONY needs to minimize costs, manufacturing plants that arn't being used need to be shutdown(or sold), engineers need to be given better budgets (don't make a $10,000 HDTV if your competitors are charging $7,000).
3) SONY-Erricson needs to be re-invented so it can become profitable again. OR if this cannot be done it needs to be sold off or abandon.
4) SONY as a whole needs to use size to its advantage. iTunes is big but why not launch music/video service integrated into PSP, PS3, SONY VAIO laptops, SONY-erricson phones, hell make a deal with Microsoft to get it to come with Windows 7. The content part is easier, all SONY Music artists songs, SONY Pictures movies and TV shows, etc. If the DRM was handled well and you could download the music / video to listen/watch on any device it then the only thing left to achieve is good marketing (hell offer TV show streams for free, supported by adds, or even movie streams for free supported by adds after the DVD/Blu-ray is released).
5) More -- they can't stop here, they need to keep looking at emerging markets, the world economy, etc to ensure that they can handle the next recession better.
