Forums - Sales Discussion - Suqare0Enix is VERY Disappointed in SALES of Chrono Trigger DS!

Square: Want more Chrono Trigger? Buy More!

Posted on June 5, 2009 by Alex Donaldson

Square Enix Senior Vice President Shinji Hashimoto revealed that the company wasn't very impressed by the sales of cult RPG classic Chrono Trigger during an E3 interview regarding Front Mission Evolved, a reinvention of the Front Mission franchise.

When asked by RPGSite staff if he could forsee Square handing off other much-loved but neglected franchises to external developers as with Front Mission, he asked what franchsie we had in mind.

Our response? Of course, Chrono Trigger.

"Why does everyone ask about Chrono Trigger?" he laughed. We told him it's a very loved series. "That's not what the sales tell me!" he responded.

"If people want a sequel, they should buy more!"

We'll be posting the Front Mission interview in full shortly, so stay tuned.

Then maybe they shouldn't have ported a 15-year old game and expected it to sell over a million. Seriously, this is ridiculous. Square are so full of themselves.

lol @ thread title......spelling mistake!

but it does sound better than "Square-Enix", they should change their name to Suqare0Enix

screw you square, i'm sorry your full price SNES port with almost nothing extra worth talking about is only gonna sell a million.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Too bad. They should still make a new one for DS. It would most likely sell much better =)

Perhaps people would buy the fan project you closed, Square. Was there a problem with releasing it yourself?

Final Fantasy III, if you're using the NES version, is nearly 20 years old. And it sold over 2 million copies on the DS. Bad excuse much?

@montana

but thats Final Fantasy + it was "properly" remade also FF is much more popular now

Maybe if people stopped downloading games...

That's the good thing about casual gamers. They actually buy all their games.

I think he's just making excuses. I don't think SE ever plans to go back to that franchise.

Off topic, but I clicked on the author's name to see what website it was, and then went to their homepage, and then my virus scanner came up indicating that it blocked a trojan from entering my computer...
