I'm guessing someone has never heard of Guild Wars.....

Thank god it's free :) now I don't have to pay a fee every month. So that's good news. Although I haven't really heard much of MMORPGs having a storyline and character development(maybe other than SMT: Imagine but it not sure if it had any characterization elements) so that's good news since it's been a while since i've played something like this

also they are saying the SINGLE PLAYER experience will be "satisfying"

thats enough for the hype to go into overdrive mode for me!

Not only have I HEARD about GW...I've bought 2 of the releases...and i also don't see GW2 taking this tack on the horizon.  To add to the point that GW isn't a traaditional MMO...it's more of a Multiplayer game, then a MMO imho...it's going to be interesting to see how long they keep the servers running, with no further releases on tap for the series.

I've played a ton MMOs, and I've played the F2P ones, and I've played the pay once...currently in WoW, lifetime membership for LOTRO, tried WAR, Try COnan...etc...I've also tried the slew of mostly korean MMOs...and msot are lacking.  Then they hit you up for microtransaction for the good stuff.  I'll point out again...if this model works SO WELL...why isn't sony moving to it for POTBS...yup played that...Everquest II...Yup played that...and on and on?

Well, Free Realms is working quite well for Sony.

Guild Wars was a big success. Why can't FF14 follow that route?

And we do not know the details on FF14, nor do we know how closely it will follow FF11.

Also it amazes me people think S-E will make the same mistakes that they made with FF11

you learn from mistakes don't you...

Free to play on PS3? aw fuck yeah! that takes care of a big obstacle for me.

F2P equals micro transactions.  Want new armor?  That'll be $.99.  Want a new sword?  $2.99 please.  Want to buy a mount?  $4.99 please.

Either way an MMO is costly, and in this scenario it can get even more costly because the amounts you pay are smaller, but add up quickly and you can lose track of how much you spent.

Also, this is kind of like Home.  Free to get in, but customizing anything costs money.

@outlawauron

cool can't wait

I'll be in uni too then = less interference from parents while playing games (lol)
