But lets not forget the times I have saved your hide, Master. Remember last week when you accidentally jumped into that pit of mutated canibal nerf-herders?

After finishing both it's the way I see it. MGS4 has fancy cinematography. But graphics wise, Gears 2 has better lighting, better character models, way more happening onscreen and higher res textures. It's a given really.
@nightsurge
Here is how I am looking at it.
A 3 megepixel photo can never be as good as a 10 megepixel photo. In someones opinion the 3MP shot may be more appealing, but in reality the 10MP shot is a higher quality shot.
Uncharted uses something like 700MB of RAM, thanks to Naughty Dogs use of the HDD for virtual Ram. Gears is limited to the 522MB of RAM built into the 360, because developers can not assume that each system has an HDD.
So perhapps I would have been better off to say that Uncharted is higher quality than Gears 1 or 2 thanks to the tech available. I agree with you that to which one looks better is an opinion statment.

uncharted has better lighting and textures, impressive for a 2 year old game
Use power for the right things. At least for the things that you believe in.
L4D has better graphics than ne other console game.
By looking at the pics, I find uncharted a very ugly game and I own only a wii. What's the big deal about it?
selnor said: Lets look objectively. I will use full scale images in 720p. just click to view in original size. All shots are from single player. This is actual ingame footage of both games. Gears 2
Uncharted
Now I have provide full 720p images of both games. And both games quality angles and picks. Even getting Uncharted's best part the water. Clearly Gears 2 kicks it's arse. Now can we move along yet? |
God this thread is rank with fanboys.
/thread...thanks selnor.
I dont like gears2 Graphics but RES 5(xbox360) owns uncharted.

This again? Uncharted does not look "better" than Gears of War 2. It has more color, but Gears of War 2 and even Gears of War 1 had better textures, animations, more realism, etc. |
The bolded words in your argument are VERY questionable. The animation in Uncharted (minus that one moneky climb animation) is by far better than what gears 1 & 2 has to offer. In terms of visuals, gears shine through textures/mapping (which you were right on), models, filtering and to some extent lighting. Animations on the other hand, isn't nearly as complex or subtle as Uncharted's. Look carefully and you'll see Drake reacting to bullets/explosions that fly/occur around him as he's strifing or even in cover. Gears uses the same animations for cover, rolling, chainsaw kills (upgraded to two with gears2), etc. The "realism" argument isn't really there either, everything (and I mean everything) in Gears have a plastic coating around it. And the style of the game isn't meant to be realistic, just look at the builds of the characters. Unlike Gears, Uncharted does try to be more "realistic" and it does it's job well. Look at the water, dirty textures on rusty objects, wet clothing, dry clothing, wet land scapes, bricks, etc. Sure, dry objects in Uncharted don't pop/stick out like they do in Gears, but they're not supposed to.
As for lighting, I'd give Gears2 the edge over Uncharted, simply because of the lighting caused by explosions and gunfire. However, Uncharted's lighting (especially in the jungle) beats out anything the original gears had to offer.
In the end, (and this is from someone that loves and own both series) I think Gears2 edges out Uncharted in just about all visual aspects (discluding animations). But the only thing gears1 has over Uncharted is texture mapping on character models (which is what UE3 excells at).
@selnor: All of your shots, from Gears2 and uncharted, are bullshots.
