Ok maybe the title of the thread isn't labelled in the best way, but which games this generation will be labelled a classic in the future?

when i say classic i'm not especially talking about sales, but I'm talking about games that will be idolised in the future and will be considered by the gaming community as a benchmark of quality in their genre. For example games like Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy VII and Mario 64.

Possible ones for this generation I guess could be Super Mario Galaxy, Metal Gear solid 4 and possibly Valkryie chronicles.

Of course theres no way of knowing what will be considered a classic in the future, but we can try!

It will be interesting to note some games that haven't been released yet, to see what people really think and the hype around them (eg. Killzone 2).

Super Mario Galaxy and Wii Sports would be my first assumptions.

Hmmm, well classic and cult classic will be different. Valkyria Chronicles and No More Heroes I think will likely be cult classics simply because of the love lavished on them is not commensurate to their commercial success.

I think COD4 will be considered a classic, Wii sports will (love it or hate it) be considered a classic. MGS4 will be classic to MGS fans (like every MGS). Some depend on the future of the franchise. Dead Space COULD become classic but only if the series takes off like EA hopes it does. It's a kick ass game, and it is the first in a new IP that EA hopes to use to it's fullest, so it could potentially become the new Resident Evil, and if that happens it will be classic. If it falls to the way side, then it will just be a good game.

Sometimes it's hard to tell how history will favor games compared to the future (hype) and present (actually playing it). I think I picked a few out though.

Valkyria Chronicles and MGS4 are spot on.

I'm gonna add Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia. Star Ocean 4 is looking like a good candidate even before release too.

I believe Portal will be considered a classic.
