Forums - Gaming Discussion - N'Gai: Developers should use low-spec machines as lead, up-port to HD

I could see this. The wii/ps2 allow them to test the waters, gauge the game's reception. If it does well, they'll upgrade the graphics and release it on the next gen systems. It might help avoid some of the devastating flops.

^^ which there are alot of. How many PS360 games don't clear 500k?

Another thing, most people didn't complain for long about 360's dvd limitations. Well that is exactly what it is, a limitation on the size, depth and capability for HD titles.

Wii uses DVD so arguably you could get much MORE game on a SD title than you could ever get on an HD version. Think about that

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Its gonna happen. Konami and Capcom are going to have a few major unsuccessful titles and then decide to actually bother to make better games for the Wii, eventually.

It's funny that one of such unsuccessful titles was 'no more heroes' according to capcom.

No More Heroes made money, and they're making a sequel. How is that unsuccessful? Also, who is Capcom to rate whether or not No More Heroes was successful? They had nothing to do with the game!

makes absolutely no sense. Porting up to HD means adding more, COMPLEX work after the job is done. When you port down to the Wii...you simply take stuff out. That takes like...5 minutes lol

Its funny coz noone said shit when PS2 specs were holding back the xbox's graphical capabilities.

Was the original Xbox a generational leap above the PS2, spec wise? No, it wasn't. It's already known that the Xbox was more powerful, but guess what? The Wii has the same computing power as the Xbox, meaning, it too is only about 1.5x more powerful than the PS2. Now, putting this in relative terms, the PS3/360 are over 4.5x more powerful than the Wii. Not to mention they're architectures are VASTLY more complex than the Wii, relative to the PS2 vs. Xbox. At the end of the day, what N'Gai is proposing is just silly, and like someone above said, PS360 software would plummet.

You think they could make KZ2 the way it is, with the Wii in it's vision, and then a "port up" at a later time? No.

N'Gai has always been my favorite video game journalist. He's intelligent, unbiased, and nine times out of ten, I agree completely with his opinion.

KZ2 is going to loose money, atleast with 360, Wii and PS2 versions it might have had a chance to break even.

According to the HD argument higher resolution is a key reasoning for having it. Well the xbox had a higher resolution output than either console competitor last gen. so yes it was a "generational leap".

GTA4 is a great example. It wasn't long enough, well thats not the Wii's fault and its certainly not the BR capable PS3's fault.

Why would Killzone 2 lose money?  It likely cost less than MGS4 to make (developers in Amerstdam are generally paid half that of their American counterparts, who are generally paid less than those in Japan, as far as I am aware), and it'll probably sell as much as MGS4 (or at least as much as CoD4).

If MGS4 made Konami a nice profit, why wouldn't Killzone 2 do the same?

Capcom or whoever said that is making stuff up, I don't even remember Capcom mentioning No More Heroes, they had nothing to do with the title, it was Marvelous and Suda51's Grasshopper studio that had anything to do with that game, also Xseed is currently heading western publishing of the sequal.

I'm pretty sure my facts are strait and if I'm right Pristine - your a liar, I hope not intentionally so.

or

You could be confusing No More Heroes with Zack and Wiki which shows how gross neglence and very negative outlook on that subject.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

The Official Huge Monster Hunter Thread:

The Hunt Begins 4/20/2010 =D

That would be horrible.. I don't want to spend 400 dollars to get the same games as the 250 system..

I expect super cool amazing awesome looking games on my 400 dollar system and fun games on my 250 dollar system not the same on both...

especially not shitty port jobs that defeat the purpose of HD
