Forums - Sales Discussion - Which one will sell more: Killzone II or Halo Wars?

That is something i've been wondering as well.

With the MASSIVE hype around K2 for the past 3 years and amount of money put into it, it should outsell Halo Wars. K2 has the advantage here in terms of genre cause shooter sell on home consoles and RTS's don't. However Ensemble is very capable.

A Sony rep came out and said that they believe K2 will do at least MGS4 numbers. Don't know if I agree with them or not but if I have to choose i'm gonna go with K2 over HW sales. If it was K2 vs. Halo: ODST at the same time though that would be a crushing victory for ODST.

a lot of people will think of halo wars as halo 4 and they'l buy it. so it will sell more but killzone 2 will deserve to sell more. idk, halo wars seems best on pc for me.

Considering how poorly Resistance 2 sold and Motorstorm 2 . . .

I think it's a no brainer, how many Age of Empires games sold? How about Halo?

Personally I liked age of empires, and hate halo, so I don't think it'll be good, but it will beat KZ2.

KZ2 is the test to see if anything can be a big hit anymore on PS3.

Actually, I think the real test for that is Gran Turismo 5.

Very true.

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

No doubt Halo Wars will sell more. R2 shows us that FPS is not a killer genre on the PS3 so I have modest expectations for KZ2. I predict it selling less than R2 due to the slow season release.

Halo Wars has a huge brand name, A million Halo fans are still playing the game daily and it tops the on-line charts on Live (beating much fresher games like CoD4, WaW and GoW).

Also remember than the Sony install base in the FPS countries (exclude Japan and Germany) is strongly lagging behind the 360 (about 10M difference). So the attach rate of KZ2 will have to be 40% higher than Halo Wars to just keep pace with it.

Unless the Halo Ware review will be less than 8.5 Halo Wars will outsell KZ2 by a wide margin.

Prediction made on 11/1/2008:

Q4 2008: 27M xbox LTD, 20M PS3 LTD . 2009 sales: 11M xbox,  9M PS3

Halo brand name is not everything, the brand was made with shooter fanbase, kids online screaming "I FRAGGED YOU F*KIN NOOOOOOOOBBBBBB, YOU'RE A S*** F**G*T AND I PWN YOU LIKE MY B***" how many of those are willing to buy a RTS?

Don't get me wrong, the Halo brand is strong and it will be a million seller because of that, but i'm curious to see sales after the 1st week, when word gets out that it's not a shooter, and to PWN someone you have to manage economy and battle, instead of "HEADSHOOTING & FRAGGING NOOBS" right away...

Killzone 2 is a shooter that's being praised, and it has no competition as a FPS (R2 had CoD:WaW and even Left4Dead as competition), or even as a shooter overall (GeoW says hi), it will be a million seller sure, and it will sell better than Halo Wars in the long run (First Week i don't know)...

Now, i'm very curious about what Ensemble Studios can do with a console RTS, i love them on PC, but if they pull this off it can do wonders like Halo did to console FPS's...

With the way COD 5 is selling it will still have competition.  You're really underrating Halo Wars brand power, and Killzone 2's no brand power.  No one I know with a ps3 is buying it.  Yet I know lots of people who are dying for Halo Wars.  RTS can sell, espescially with a name on it.

halo wars of course.

The word halo guarentees it millions in america, whereas remember the last hyped ps3 FPS, resistance 2? What sales did that achieve?

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

KZ2
Halo Wars will not pass 3 million(imo)

I have to say KZ2. All my friends who are extreme Halo/CoD fans know Halo Wars is not a FPS and wont even rent the game. They want to run and gun not wait to build up armies. KZ2 looks to incredible to not sell well. I think a lot of CoD buyers will be opening their wallets for it.

KZ2, mainly because rts have a terrible time on home consoles, if you were saying KZ2 or halo wars PC id go halo wars... but i tend to see rts on the console as failures... and if KZ2 does not outsell halo wars, then i see killzone 2 as a failure
